Remember when that snarky Plastic Faced hag Nancy Pelosi used to demand of George Bush, “Where are the jobs Mr. President?” Remember when the Democrat cheerleaders in the media convinced enough halfwits that an unemployment rate under 5% was putting America on the brink of collapse? We might not hear remarks like that now, but they are more appropriate than ever in our lifetime.
As meager as Obama’s reported number of jobs was last week, experts (Democrats LOVE to quote experts except when they say things they don’t like) said the unusually warm winter has distorted and inflated even the small jobs growth we might have experienced last month. Because there was no “seasonal change” to cheat with, the Bureau of Labor Statistics can’t claim a “seasonal adjustment” to make its numbers look better now and adjust them downward later when they think no one will be watching.
The “surge” in hiring we were told happened (if it actually took place) in March may very well be a blip on an otherwise flat lining screen.
The warm weather experienced by almost the whole country encouraged a more vigorous approach to job hunting on the part of many who were seeking employment. Outdoor jobs such as construction and retail jobs related to construction work opened up as the temperatures climbed. Lawn care related jobs such as mower sales and repair jumped up 40% while sun care related sales employment went up 17%. Even bottled water sales jobs grew by 5% along with outdoor recreation.
But thinking this will continue puts one on thin and melting ice.
A senior managing director and co-founder of Macroeconomic Advisers, a firm which studies job growth and contractions as they relate to weather, said as much as 30 percent of the 227,000 jobs added in February were “warm weather” jobs.
Another expert said the 245,000 average monthly job growth from December through February should more correctly be set at 210,000 after factoring in the warmer weather during that period.
So, Mr. Obama, where are the jobs? This fake “recovery” will fade and melt as quickly as snow in April. Then what will Plastic Face say?
