A group of Australian pro-life activists — including several members of parliament — were reportedly harassed and physically assaulted during a recent event. The March for Babies, held in Melbourne last weekend, was unfortunately defined by the hate-filled actions of about 200 rabid anti-life hoodlums.
As the march was set to commence, the mob stood in the way and began throwing eggs and generally provoking participants. A number of individuals with Stand True Ministries, included under the umbrella of Priests for Life, were reportedly beaten or kicked by counter-protesters. At least one member of parliament, Andrew Elsbury, was stomped by the violent mob after being thrown to the ground.
Fellow elected official Bernie Finn described his experience, saying he was “belted in the head” and left with “the remnants of an egg in my hair.”
He spoke out against not only the violent outbreak but also the failure of local police to act in the matter.
Calling it a “public mugging on the streets of Melbourne,” he said that law enforcement “sat back and watched.”
Stand True Founder Bryan Kemper agreed, saying “the police let them start attacking us.”
After initially attempting to meet force with force, he said that marchers eventually relented and took their event to another location.
“As we got the the stage, the pro-aborts took over our stage and started stealing banners and signs,” he said. “That is when I was knocked to the ground and kicked and stepped on.”
The radical abortion advocates also instigated a precursor to their attack on pro-life marchers, Kemper noted, explaining that a group barged into a speech he gave the preceding night.
“I stopped the talk and cleared a whole table of people and asked them to sit down, have some food and wine and join us,” he explained. While they agreed at first, he said, they lasted only about 10 minutes “before getting restless again and they left without incident.”
One of the anti-life protesters explained the incident as “a scuffle,” which marchers say is how police treated the matter. In actuality, though, this mob was willing to make its point through any means necessary. They don’t want to see any restrictions placed on Australia’s extremely liberal abortion law, which allows a mother to facilitate her child’s murder up to the point of a full birth.
Considering the inhumane desire to kill is the one factor that brought these monsters together, their savagery doesn’t seem so surprising.
