How is being a Muslim a crime? If he did identify as Muslim that wouldn't necessarily change his political views. The only thing that would make you think he (or anyone else who practices Islam) is a terrorist are from assumptions that came from the acts of select individuals. That was not every existing Muslim bombing America.
I think what it means to be a true American is to tolerate religions, etc. If someone (including Obama's) race, middle name, or religion he grew up with, offends you it is your fault for allowing it to. Because we are all people, and that shouldn't effect a political standpoint so much. This just seems like high-school name calling but on such a grand scale.

The problem with being a Muslim is the attached Islamic ideaology, that says Islam has to be the dominate Religion. Islam is run by the more radical Muslims who adhere to this, and also believe Sahria Law should be used for Mulims in the USA.
Shria Law is toytally against all American beliefs. You may believe Muslims are peaceful, but they are not the majority, and have no power against the real Muslim power, the radicals.
As an American. I have to look to Europe, and the fact that in the Muslim countrys, there is no tolerance for other religions. All other religions are persecuted.

Religion has an enormous bearing on how one views the world, makes decisions and if in position of power, how they would govern. The only thing Obama could do to negate his being Moslem by definition of male birth is to be baptized a Christian, although conversion is prohibited by Moslems; and thus far he has not said he has been baptized, only that he is "a Christian by choice," while describing his wife and children as having been baptized. He has never produced commonplace proof of either birth on U.S. soil, or, Christian baptism.
