I remember four years ago, I was eating at a restaurant and getting into a discussion about Obama's tax increases on anybody making $250,000 or more with the server. She said she didn't care as long as it didn't affect her. Well, that restaurant (going unnamed for dignity) later went out of business two years later. Needless to say, I was shocked. That was one of my favorite restaurants. Still, I wish I had thought to ask the server a few questions during the discussion so she would at least think about her position a little more clearly. I would have asked, "Do you know how much your employer makes?" If she had answered more than 250k I would have followed up with, "Okay, so if your employer's taxes go up, what do you suppose will happen to your paycheck? Will it increase or decrease?" Then I would have seen where the conversation would have gone after that. Maybe she would have changed her mind and figured increased payroll taxes weren't such a "great idea" as she thought. Oh well. Too late now. She probably has some other job that wasn't as great as the one she had before. Either that or she's been forced to collect unemployment because no one could afford to hire her.
