This Law Would Basically Tell Michelle Obama To Shove It

As Western Journalism has previously reported, the strict nutritional guidelines imposed onto America’s public schools under the direction of Michelle Obama have resulted in lunches students are unwilling to eat–and financial losses in many districts.

Republicans in the U.S. House are hoping to address these concerns with a proposed bill that would provide regulatory waivers for schools that can document six straight months of net losses in their food programs.

News of the proposal surfaced Monday, even as the first lady addressed supporters of her nutritional standards, which have attracted significant criticism over the past two years. Legislators are set to vote on the bill this week; and according to reports, the action was initiated upon the receipt of multiple complaints by school districts struggling under the added regulation.

According to a statement by the School Nutrition Association, Michelle Obama’s guidelines leave no room for schools to make the decisions they feel work best for the students in their care.

The group’s president, Leah Schmidt, explained such programs “need more flexibility to plan menus that increase student consumption of healthy choices while limiting waste.”

The organization reports that food programs in about half of all schools saw revenue drop over the past year, while a whopping nine in 10 indicated food price increases.

Of course, some, like Margo Wootan of the far-left Center for Science in the Public Interest, believe administrators just need to be patient and will ultimately come to love the new regulations.

“It’s a shame that the House Republicans are taking a step backward and allowing schools to serve more unhealthy food to children,” she asserted.

As it stands, however, a huge number of students are opting to simply skip lunch instead of partaking in the unappetizing meals they are currently being offered. In many districts, students themselves are engaging in public backlash against the cafeteria changes.

Similar to the results of federal Common Core curriculum standards, these one-size-fits-all nutritional guidelines prove that decisions imposed on all students from the highest level of government are notoriously ineffective and unwelcomed by many of those directly affected.
