The U.N. Just Accused The Catholic Church Of Torture. The Reason Why Will Blow Your Mind

The United Nations is increasing its assault on the Catholic Church’s pro-life doctrine, saying that the pro-life stance amounts to “psychological torture” of women. Could anyone who promotes pro-life policies now be found guilty of  “torture”  by the UN? According to Article I of  the UN Convention Against Torture:

For the purposes of this Convention, the term ‘torture’ means any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity.

A member of the UN Committee Against Torture also charged that the church’s anti-abortion stance causes women to seek dangerous abortions, according to a pro-church representative who attended the UN meeting. Ashley E. McGuire of the group Catholic Voices USA responded:

They are almost blaming the Catholic Church for unsafe abortions. The church doesn’t believe there is anything as a safe abortion.

She also stated:

Abortion is among the most egregious forms of torture than can be perpetuated against a child, and attacking the church’s moral and religious beliefs violates the religious liberty of the church, a human right which the United Nations affirms. Yet, the U.N. Committee Against Torture seems to be setting the stage that if you are pro-life you are pro-torture.

How painful is abortion? Anatomical studies have shown that the body’s pain network is fully developed by the time a baby has gestated for twenty weeks.

An unborn baby who is five months old  “is fully capable of experiencing pain. … Without question, [abortion] is a dreadfully painful experience for any infant subjected to such a surgical procedure.” -Robert J. White, M.D., PhD., professor of neurosurgery, Case Western University

So who is promoting torture in this case? Is it the Catholic Church that has spoken out about the “dreadfully painful experience” of abortion? Or is it the UN bureaucrats who are supposedly concerned with the safety of women, regardless of the costs to the babies?
