The government, as created by the Founders of the united States of America, was separate from the Nation, or the People. It was a government of (owned by) the people, by (elected representatives) the people, and for (the good of) the people. Until the election of Abraham Lincoln, that was pretty much the case. There were some instances of special interests interfering in the smooth operation of the government (The National Bank), but they were beaten back. The Civil War changed all of that.
The States were not allowed to exercise their right to secede from the Union. Rather than the war ending slavery for the black people of the Nation, the white people were put in bondage as sure as bondage is.
In Canada there is, or was, a law that stated that a woman who asked for a divorce three times and didn’t follow through was precluded from filing a fourth time. She then became as good as a slave to the husband. That is about the same thing as what happened when the bankers funding the North in the American Civil War won the war. Of course, the bankers always win. They will win the election in November. They are the major backers of the Hair Do from Massachusetts and the Golfer in the White House currently.
The Legislature of the United States of America enacted a law against the wishes of 70% of the Nation – or the people. That law is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), or Obamacare (which should be termed “ObamaLessCare”). The Nation did not want the law passed. The government, however did. Every member of Congress who voted for this abominable law voted against the Nation and voted for the government.
Because of the government schools, the people do not understand the difference between the Nation and the government. It is our country, but not our government. The government is now owned and controlled by special interests. The management of Monsanto becomes the management of the FDA, and tells us that Genetically Modified Foods are essentially the same as organic. Most people do not believe it.
PPACA is a method of collecting taxes, though among the gibberish of the 2,700 pages of the law is a line that reads verbatim: “This tax is not a tax.” A line that proves the insanity of the people who wrote the law, and those who passed it.
The people who are in charge of running the government have no reality on responsibility, or who is responsible for what. The DHS has a course for the gun toting agents wherein they are told to run and hide if confronted by a shooter, and to “throw things at the shooter”, and to “call law enforcement”. The authors of the tutorial for armed agents has no idea that the agents are the law enforcement! It is the mindset of the individuals in the government that someone else is responsible. They have no clue as to who that might be, but it isn’t them.
The colonies in the Americas existed before the States. The people of each of the colonies gathered and elected some representatives to write Constitutions for each of the colonies and once the State Constitutions were ratified, the States were, at that point, in existence. The people empowered a State Government. The State Governments then elected representatives to form a union of the States to be an agent of the State Governments in specific areas of commerce and interaction of the Union with foreign governments. The Federal Government had also a very limited geographical area. The people confined the States with the respective Constitutions. The States confined the Federal Government with the Constitution of the United States.
Governments, however, whether large or small, old or new, only exist with the regular payment of taxes. More taxes begets more government. More government begets more taxes. Round and round we go, and where we stop, we will soon find out.
The government has its military. The people have their militias. The States have their own military (it is called the National Guard). It is to guard the Autonomous State, unless called into actual military service. Dubya engineered that with the second Iraq War. The States lost their representation with the ratification of the 17th Amendment to Our Constitution. It has now come down to the people or Nation, versus the Federal Government. Will we be able to save any vestige of our once great Republic?

Correction: the states no longer control the National Guard. The National Guard Mobilization Act of 1933 made the National Guard of the United States a component of the Army at all times, which could be ordered into active federal service by the President whenever Congress declared a national emergency.
And the NDAA of 2008, signed by W, created the governors council, which O has now staffed. This group of 10 governors, along with cousin Janet and several military leaders, reporting only to the president, can go anywhere in the country and arrest anyone the president wishes (goodbye Posse Comitatus). Anyone arrested can be held indefinitely, with no charges or right to legal council, bail, or other heretofore taken for granted citizen rights.
