Terry Lakin: Down the Memory Hole

Diane West, Washington Examiner

Wikipedia, the widely read, online, multiauthored encyclopedia, features an entry on the term “memory hole,” which originated with the prescient if not also clairvoyant George Orwell. The Wikipedia definition begins:

“A memory hole is any mechanism for the alteration or disappearance of inconvenient or embarrassing documents, photographs, transcripts, or other records … particularly as part of an attempt to give the impression that something never happened.”

Wikipedia itself may have just offered a good example of how the mechanism works when unknown, unknowable site authorities “took down” a new entry on Lt. Col. Terrence “Terry” Lakin’s challenge to President Obama’s eligibility to hold office almost as soon it went up.

I read a screen shot of the entry and it is factual and noninflammatory. Did Lakin’s page go down the memory hole?

Wikipedia readers who seek information about Lakin are redirected to a synopsis of his case within a composite entry on the larger Obama citizenship controversy. Not all but much of the same information is available there, only now, instead of appearing under a biographical entry titled “Terrence L. Lakin,” it is included within “Barack Obama Citizenship Conspiracy Theories.”

I linger over this incident not only because Lakin supporters have dubbed this week Terry Lakin Action Week, urging American citizens to take the occasion to call their congressional representatives about the case, or even because Lakin, a decorated, 18-year Army officer and physician, faces an upcoming court-martial at Fort Meade, Md., on Dec. 14 for refusing to follow orders to redeploy to Afghanistan because of his conviction that the president hasn’t proven his eligibility to hold office.

Those are both timely reasons to think about Lakin. But there is a larger question here that his sensational case should point us to consider.

CNN Retracts Smear of “Birther” Officer as “Racist,” “Freak”

Bob Unruh, WorldNetDaily

CNN, which became one of the first mainstream networks to put the absence of publicly available documentation for Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility in prime time, has issued a retraction for publicly calling an officer challenging Obama’s eligibility “racist.”

The original accusation and the retraction both came from one of the “experts” CNN offered on the case of Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, who faces a court-martial in a few weeks for refusing to deploy because the president refused to document his eligibility to be commander-in-chief.

An initial combative interview with Lakin was done by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who portrayed Lakin negatively. It was a followup shortly later by CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin in which the problems arose.

Cooper mentioned Lakin had served “honorably” in his 18-year career.

Toobin then launched a rant.

“You know, these people are bigots, they’re racists, they’re freaks, they’re lunatics, these are not rational players in American politics,” he said on air.

Hearing set for officer challenging eligibility

By Bob Unruh, WND

The U.S. Army has confirmed June 11 for an Article 32 hearing for a physician who is refusing to obey orders until Barack Obama provides documentation of his eligibility to be commander-in-chief of the nation’s military.

The announcement comes today from the American Patriot Foundation, which operates the Safeguard Our Constitution website which is generating support for Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin.

The organization said Lakin has refused to deploy to Afghanistan again, "because the president refuses – even in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary – to prove his eligibility under the Constitution to hold office."

The hearing is scheduled at 9 a.m. in Room 134 of Building T-2 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

The organization said all proceedings are open to the media and public.

It was Lakin’s stance that convinced CNN, which had ignored or ridiculed the issue for months, to give it a prime time focus less than a week ago.

Retired Army general: Lt. Col. Lakin has ‘valid point’

By Chelsea Schilling, WorldNetDaily

A retired Army general and national security policy expert says Lt. Col. Terry Lakin has "a valid point" and should use his "right to discovery" to force the Obama administration to produce proof of his natural-born citizenship status.

In an interview with Evil Conservative Radio, Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely said, "I think many in the military – and many out of the military – question the natural-birth status of Barack Obama. … I’m not convinced that he is [a natural-born citizen]."

Vallely, CEO of Stand Up America U.S., graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned in the Army in 1961, serving 32 years.

He said he inspected his own long-form birth certificate, and it contains a doctor’s name, date and location of birth.

"But he’s never been able to produce that," he said of Obama. "His unwillingness to do it also concerns me. I think Lt. Col. Lakin has a valid point. … He refuses to produce a birth certificate that states the witnessing of the birth, the date and who is the doctor. We don’t know why he won’t come out with that."

As WND reported today, the Army has filed two charges against Lakin, citing alleged violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice Articles 87 and 92.

Lakin publicly asked the president to document his eligibility and expressed a willingness to deploy with the 32nd Cavalry Regiment to Afghanistan, without response from the White House.

"The intelligence report LTC Terry Lakin discovered on Obama’s Eligibility"

The Western Center for Journalism

In December ‘08 a retired CIA officer commissioned an investigator to look into the Barack Obama birth certificate and eligibility issue.  On July 21, 2009 westernjournalism.com obtained a copy of the investigator’s report and published it. Thousands have since read the report.  The report is featured as one of the Key Documents on the safeguardourconstitution.com website that is maintained by the American Patriot Foundation that supports Lieutenant Colonel Terry Lakin.

Lieutenant Colonel Lakin is refusing to deploy as ordered to Afghanistan until Obama permits the Hawaiian Department of Health to release his original birth certificate to support the claim that he is a natural born citizen and thereby meets the eligibility requirement for his office mandated by the Constitution. This may lead to Lakin’s facing a court-martial.

Much new information has surfaced since the original publication and the investigator recently submitted to us an updated version of the report. Even if you have read it before, please consider reading the updated version that includes this new information. The situation for Lt Col Lakin is grave and we salute his courage, and we reaffirm the accuracy of this important research.—The Editors

Clearing the Smoke on Obama’s Eligibility

Most people think of an original birth certificate as a state or hospital document containing a statement by a doctor or midwife.  The hospital document usually is accompanied by a footprint.

No one has ever presented any evidence that such a document has ever existed in the United States for Barack Obama.  The Hawaii Dept of Health refuses to give a yes or no answer to the question whether they have such a document on file.
