Cloaked Figure Spotted Dropping Something In Playgrounds That Sparked Fear Among Residents

Residents in Gastonia, N.C., were startled after a cloaked figure allegedly dropped raw meat in a park last week. It was initially unclear who the person was, including his or her gender.

The photos first appeared on the page of Facebook group “One Man’s Junk” last Sunday and Monday, the Gaston Gazette reported. It is unknown who took the photos.

The Gazette noted the figure could be from the Hudson Woods apartment complex in Gastonia, though property management and law enforcement officials were still skeptical. “We don’t know if it’s one of our residents with an interesting way of presenting themselves, or if it’s a trespasser,” said Lance Calhoun, director of operations for Southwood Realty.

“There’s no validation that it was Hudson Woods. It could have come from anywhere. We don’t know if this is some bogus prank somebody is playing,” said Gastonia Police Department spokeswoman Donna Lahser.

Reaction on Twitter ranged from serious to lighthearted.

On Wednesday, the truth was uncovered.

“It looks like we have a logical explanation for all of this,” Calhoun told the Gazette. “It looks like some visiting college kids were working on a school project.”

The Gazette offers more details on the fallout of the story:

Calhoun and Lahser said they were both surprised by the online reaction to the story and photos.

‘Once the student’s parent saw the overwhelming response, she called the leasing agent,’ Calhoun said.

‘She contacted the property and said it was her daughter working on something related to school,’ he said.

Officers have spent little time on the report, according to Lahser, because the only crime that would’ve been committed would have been littering.

‘It’s getting more credence than it needs to. It’s got a life of its own, she said.

Charlotte Highway Roadsign Hacked to Read, “Impeach Obama”

Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

The North Carolina Department of Transportation called for Barack Obama’s impeachment — at least for one day.

Over the weekend, someone hacked into an electronic highway sign and changed its message to a huge, blinking, “Impeach Obama.”

The sign — which is located at the intersection of Unionville-Indian Trail and Ridge roads in Union County, North Carolina — attracted drivers’ attention but apparently no complaints to the state. WSOC-TV reports it notified the NCDOT about the sign’s message on Sunday, and an engineer corrected the sign that evening.

Although one cannot condone this instance of defacing public property, the “Impeach Obama” message could be seen as equal time for the Obama propaganda signs that still….

James Madison vs. Barack Obama on Funding Planned Parenthood

Dr. Paul G. Kengor,

With a critical vote in its state Senate, North Carolina has voted to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Republicans hold a huge majority in the Senate—meaning, as a Republican majority usually does, that the Senate is pro-life. The governor of the state, Bev Perdue, is a Democrat—meaning, as a Democrat chief executive usually does, that the governor is “pro-choice,” and favors funding Planned Parenthood. Enough Republicans exist in the legislature to over-ride Perdue’s veto.

Prior to this vote, North Carolina infused Planned Parenthood with $434,000 annually, directed at state “family-planning programs.” That money was to go to “non-abortion services;” that is, “non-abortion services” by the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Most significant, North Carolina’s action signals a potential trend among states. It is the third state to vote to de-fund Planned Parenthood, following measures by legislatures in Indiana and Kansas, where the governors are Republicans and supportive. In Kansas, the governor is the solidly pro-life Sam Brownback, a gigantic change from Governor Kathleen Sebelius, who is now President Obama’s point-person to revamp America’s healthcare system. In Indiana, the governor is Mitch Daniels.

In all three states, North Carolina, Kansas, and Indiana, we see yet again how the Republican Party has become the pro-life party and the Democratic Party—the party of my family’s roots—has continued in the opposite direction.

The next key thing to watch is how the Obama administration reacts to North Carolina. In recent weeks….

Obama Accused of Violating Abortion Funding Law

Steven Ertelt,

A pro-life group that uncovered how the University of North Carolina was requiring students to pay for abortions under a student health care plan says the Obama administration may be ignoring the Hyde Amendment.

Last year, Students for Life of America discovered that the UNC System was automatically enrolling their students in a health care plan that covered elective abortions. After working with UNC students and leading an effective grassroots campaign, SFLA forced the UNC Administration to modify its policy and allow students to “opt-out” of the abortion coverage.

After the expose’ and the followup actions, SFLA president Kristan Hawkins said she was worried that federal funds could have been involved in paying for the abortions, contravening federal law under the Hyde Amendment…

Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina sent the Department of Education a letter in October asking Obama administration officials if they were aware of the abortion coverage included in the University of North Carolina System’s mandatory student health care policy and if they could prove that taxpayer funds were not paying for the abortion coverage.

On February 15, the U.S. Department of Education answered the letter. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan wrote, “…the Department has not issued any regulations, guidance, or other official policy with regard to the Hyde amendment, nor has the Department relayed any information regarding the Hyde Amendment to colleges and universities that participate in the Title IV and HEA programs.”

That prompts more concerns for Hawkins.

“The Department of Education is not upholding federal law which clearly states that taxpayer money is not to be used to pay for elective abortions,” she told yesterday. “By not providing oversight, the Department of Education is allowing taxpayer money to fund elective student abortions at the University of North Carolina as well as in dozens of others universities across the country. Abortion is not health care and should not be a pre-requisite for learning.”

Obama’s Stimulus Put Microchips in Your Trash

Ben Johnson, Floyd Reports

Obama: Big Brother is Watching You

A new Senate report reveals the Obama administration spent nearly half-a-million dollars in stimulus funds to purchase recycling bins implanted with microchips, designed to monitor private citizens’ recycling levels.

Republican Senators Tom Coburn, R-OK, and John McCain, R-AZ, tracked 100 misuses of stimulus funds in a publication entitled “Summertime Blues,” released just weeks ago. (It is far from a comprehensive list.)

They found the administration gave $500,000 to the city of Dayton, Ohio, to assist its recycling plan. Part of the federal funds went to purchase 8,000 bins equipped with microchips that track which residents are recycling.

City and county government officials decided the Big Brother program was so worthwhile they spent a combined $60,000 of their own money to buy an additional 1,300 bins.

In February, the Dayton Daily News described the new curbside equipment:

The microchips, which use radio frequency identification technology, are installed in the bin handles. Four city waste collection trucks will be equipped to read the microchips that will be associated with specific street addresses.

All the city’s 60,000 households will be added to the program “over several years at a total cost of $1.6 million.” The full cost will be borne by the U.S. taxpayer thanks to a $1.6 million Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant the federal government awarded Dayton from stimulus funds.

WHIO-TV asked city officials about the program’s inclusion in Coburn’s report. They “said only $9,000 went to the microchips and the program is actually helping to redirect bins to neighborhoods that use them the most.”

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, began using microchip-implanted recycling bins last month. The city will store each family’s recycling history for three years. (Local talk show host Tara Servatius had the story first.)

Again, city bureaucrats dismissed privacy concerns to local media:

The city says it doesn’t plan to knock on people’s doors who aren’t recycling. Instead it says the chip will be used to monitor which neighborhoods are recycling less than others.

Neighborhoods that aren’t recycling much would then be given encouragement to recycle more. The city says this would be done either through mailings or appearances by the recycling department at community events. (Emphasis added.)

Americans are not the only ones concerned about government-tracked refuse — and what “encouragement to recycle” may entail.

At least 2.6 million homes in Great Britain — approximately 10 percent of all British households — have microchipped recycling bins. Members of the Conservative Party have protested that information obtained by the chips may be used to levy additional taxes based on the weight of weekly recycling, a plan they dubbed “Pay As You Throw.”

Gordon Brown’s Labour Party dismissed the charges as scare tactics. But many areas in England already demand trash be sorted into nine different color-coded classifications. Offenders face a maximum fine of more than $1,500 (U.S.).

Laying aside legitimate anxieties about government intrusion, Sen. Coburn found little “stimulus” from this expenditure.

The $862 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was supposed to stabilize the national unemployment, but unemployment remains mired at 9.5 percent, and this week first-time jobless claims reached their highest level in nine months.
