(Was Cenk Uygur purged at the White House’s request?)
After years of mutual courtship, the White House may have consummated its marriage to MSNBC by canceling the program of the network’s most critical host. This unprecedented invasion of journalistic autonomy comes after years of MSNBC’s fawning coverage, promotion of the administration’s objectives, and receiving on-air prompts to guide its coverage to Obama’s greatest benefit.
Now that MSNBC has canceled his short-lived 6 p.m. program, Cenk Uygur is speaking out. Uygur, who continues to host The Young Turks program elsewhere, says the network chief told him in no uncertain terms he had to tailor his program to please “people in Washington.” The executive added MSNBC is composed of “insiders” and plays a vital role in “the Establishment.”
Uygur says at the beginning of his tenure at 6 p.m. — where he replaced Ed Schultz — Uygur “got pulled in” by “the head of MSNBC”:
He said, “I was just in Washington, and people in Washington tell me they’re concerned about your tone.”
…Then he gives me the second part of the speech. He said, “Hey listen, Cenk…I’d love to be an outsider. Outsiders are cool. But we’re not. We’re insiders. We are the Establishment.”
Uygur says the executive concluded by telling….

Barack Obama has sometimes been fond of branding his Republican foes “hostage-takers,” but officials in his administration have found a new hostage in their negotiations over raising the debt ceiling: the U.S. Constitution. The president’s advisers and several “unbiased” media outlets are suggesting if Congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, Barack Obama can force the nation to continue borrowing money. The Founding Fathers required all expenditures originate in the House of Representatives, but Obama officials are wrapping his actions in the 14th Amendment. For the first time in living memory, the president is threatening to commit an impeachable offense if he does not get his way.
CBS News has reported the debt ceiling impasse leaves “the option of a congressional end-run by President Obama a possibility.” Reporter Whit Johnson said, “The stalemate in Washington has some asking if President Obama could simply bypass Congress and order the Treasury to keep borrowing.” Obama or his spokesman Jay Carney has been asked twice about the possibility and, despite an incredibly misleading headline from the Associated Press, neither rejected the possibility. (Carney merely said, “I don’t think that I want to get into speculation about what might happen if something does or doesn’t happen”; Obama replied, “I don’t think we should even get to the constitutional issue.”) MSNBC’s Powerwall dared the president to carry it out, claiming it would be smart politically.
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.

Before the invention of movable type, newspapers created a tablet for each page they wished to print and broke it at the end of the day. If the media wanted to conserve resources, they could simply fuse the words “The Obama administration lied” to the opening line of each day’s edition and fill in the blank appropriately. This week alone, the press exposed Obama administration lies — in some cases under oath — about its stealth amnesty program for illegal immigrants and about whether airport x-ray scanners were tested for safety. Yet instead of focusing on the cascading batch of left-wing lies and misdirection, the media have trained their targets on Michele Bachmann’s off-the-cuff comments about her hometown and Bristol Palin’s first sexual encounter.

Susan Carroll of The Houston Chronicle opened her lead story on Monday with the words, “Homeland Security officials misled the public and Congress last year in an effort to downplay a wave of immigration case dismissals in Houston and other cities amid accusations that they had created a ‘back-door amnesty,’ newly released records show.” The Chronicle reported that ICE Director John Morton released a memo last June instructing local immigration officials to dismiss pending cases against “thousands” of illegal immigrants who were set to be deported. Morton insisted ICE agents deport only the worst offenders, leaving all others in the country.
The Chronicle received a series of ICE documents in response to its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. (You can read them here.) Carroll wrote, “It was unclear from the documents, some of which were heavily redacted, exactly how the Houston office handled cases involving illegal immigrants with criminal records.”
Nonetheless, the number of case dismissals increased 40 percent during the last fiscal year.
Gary L. Goldman, ICE’s chief lawyer in Houston, eagerly implemented the memo, releasing hundreds of illegals. He rescinded the order only August 25, after Morton’s actions came to light.

Minnesota Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is now the “it” candidate in the race for president. In the last presidential debate, she looked poised and polished and made big news by stating that she had filed papers to officially launch her presidential campaign. She recently took the next step and formally announced her campaign for president in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.
With her impressive debate performance and enhanced media attention, Bachmann is now running second in the latest Iowa poll, only one point behind Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts. Romney is the candidate of the country club Republicans or the establishment wing of the party. This RINO (Republican in Name Only) is a flip-flopper par excellence and the father of the Bay State’s socialized medicine program. He would be the worst potential GOP candidate to challenge Barack Obama, because he could not make effective arguments against the worst excess of the Obama administration.
On the other hand, Bachmann is the perfect candidate for she has a solid conservative voting record. She is also the Chairwoman of the Tea Party caucus in Congress and is close to the activists who are now driving the Republican Party
A Romney nomination would create serious problems for the Republican Party and may lead to a third party candidacy or a weakened turnout in the next election. Republicans need a massive get out the vote effort to overtake the incumbent, who will have the liberal media, Hollywood, the unions, and the special interest groups fully in his corner. He will also have possibly $1 billion in campaign money to harass the GOP candidate.
President Obama will not campaign on his credentials or accomplishments in office, because he does not have any. Instead, it will be a typical Democratic Party campaign of character assassination.
Bachmann has already experienced the slings and arrows from the mainstream news media. She has been a frequent victim of Chris Matthews’ viciousness on MSNBC. Over the weekend, she was called a “flake” by the supposedly objective Chris Wallace of Fox News….
