Message to Obama: Stop DREAM-ing and Seal the Border!

Joe Guzzardi, FloydReports.com

During a decade of trying to pass the DREAM Act, its supporters have continuously hit a brick wall. Since 2001, the DREAM Act has been shot down 13 times.

Advocates have tried every trick in the book. With the hope of slipping it past unsuspecting critics, the DREAM Act has occasionally been buried in part of broader legislation but without success. Even when the DREAM Act deck was heavily stacked in its favor as it was during last year’s lame duck session, the result was the same—no sale.

And yet…although Capitol Hill experts from both sides of the political aisle agree that the legislation has no chance of passing during the current immigration enforcement-minded Congress, the DREAM Act was re-introduced last month by its most tenacious Democratic Senate allies: Richard Durbin, Harry Reid, and Chuck Schumer.

The DREAM Act playbook is unchanged. Recent high school or university graduates with impeccable academic and personal resumes are paraded in front of Congress with the inference that all illegal alien students excel and accordingly deserve deep tuition discounts. Religious groups and ethnic identity lobbyists suggest that defeating the DREAM Act, and thus potentially denying the United States’ fastest growing minority an advanced education, would doom America to an uncertain future.

Throughout the ten-year battle against the DREAM Act, Americans have remained firm in their resolve against it. The DREAM Act is an amnesty, rewards illegal behavior and encourages more immigration. Taxpayers continue to be angry that, despite the multiple messages sent to Congress that have blocked the DREAM Act, the fight is on again.

Consider Maryland’s case. In April, the state legislature narrowly passed its own version of the DREAM Act. Scheduled to take effect on July 1, Maryland’s law allows illegal aliens who could prove they attended a state high school for three years and whose parents have paid taxes would qualify for in-state tuition rates at universities, colleges and community colleges.According to Maryland’s Department of Legislative Services, by 2016 the state would have to fund an additional $3.5 million annually to provide aliens….

Obama is Facilitating Illegal Immigrant’s Lawsuit Against U.S.

Judicial Watch

The family of a drug-abusing illegal immigrant who died after being subdued with a stun gun is suing the U.S. government for using excessive force that led to his “wrongful death.”

The illegal immigrant, Anastacio Hernandez, lived in San Diego and was twice deported to his native Mexico. He became unruly when federal agents tried to deport him at the San Ysidro border crossing in May and an officer used a stun gun to control him. Hernandez ended up dying and the San Diego County coroner ruled it a heart attack with methamphetamine abuse and hypertension as contributing factors…

This week the illegal alien’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the U.S. government in San Diego, alleging that immigration agents used excessive force to detain the 42-year-old construction worker as they escorted him to Tijuana. The complaint says agents repeatedly beat Hernandez and shot him several times with the stun gun.

The Mexican consulate in San Diego organized a press conference to announce the lawsuit and introduce the family’s attorney, who claims the illegal alien was “frightened” and “pleading for his life” when agents beat him. Mexican authorities have demanded a thorough investigation of the incident and the Obama administration has vowed to oblige.

Of interesting note is that the Justice Department has transferred the case to its civil rights division, which is headed by Thomas Perez, the former Maryland Labor Secretary that has long fought for the rights of illegal immigrants. Perez supports Mexican and Guatemalan-issued cards as valid identification in this country, favors discounted tuition for illegal immigrants at public colleges and universities and supports programs that advice illegal aliens how to deal with police.

Perez also served on the board of a controversial, taxpayer-funded day laborer center (Casa de Maryland) that helps illegal immigrants by operating employment facilities and offering free legal services.

Broken Promises: Maryland Becomes Second State to Offer Federally Funded Abortions under Obamacare

By Matt Cover, CNSNews.com

Maryland will join Pennsylvania as the second state to use federal tax dollars to pay for abortions under the new health care law signed by President Barack Obama in March, according to information released by Maryland’s State Health Insurance Plan.

Maryland will receive $85 million in federal funds for its federally mandated high-risk insurance pool, which will cover abortions. As CNSNews.com reported on July 14, Pennsylvania will receive $160 million in federal funds for its high-risk insurance pool, which will also cover abortions.

During the debate over the health-care bill, President Obama delivered a speech to a joint session of Congress, saying: “Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”

The day the House voted to pass that bill, President Obama also signed an executive order purporting to prevent federal funding of abortions in the programs it created.

Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.), the chairman of the House Republican Conference, said Friday that the fact that Maryland will now use federal dollars to fund abortions under a program mandated by the health-care law signed by President Obama represents a “broken promise.
