Obama Illegally Funding ACORN

Judicial Watch

A Judicial Watch investigation has found that the Obama administration recently violated the ban on federal funding for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) by giving the famously corrupt group tens of thousands of dollars in grants to “combat housing and lending discrimination.”

Congress passed a law (Defund ACORN Act) in 2009 to stop the huge flow of taxpayer money that annually went to ACORN after a series of exposés about the left-wing group’s illegal activities. Judicial Watch has been a leader in investigating ACORN by requesting public records and taking legal action to uncover details of its fraudulent voter registration drives, involvement in the housing market meltdown and its close ties to President Obama. Read all about it here.

This week a JW probe uncovered that Obama’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently awarded a $79,819 grant to an ACORN reincarnation called Affordable Housing Centers of America (AHCOA). Incredibly, the government’s federal expenditure website openly describes the recipient as ACORN Housing Corporation Inc. and lists the group’s New Orleans address at 1024 Elysian Fields.

HUD’s press release announcing the award is more discreet, however. It lists the recipient of the $79,819 grant as Florida-based Affordable Housing Centers of America, even though it’s the same ACORN offshoot. In all, HUD awarded 108 “fair housing organizations” more than $40 million to educate the public and combat discrimination. The allocation represents a $13.2 million increase over last year’s allotment to end housing discrimination against minorities.

In addition to disregarding the ACORN funding ban, the grant is astounding because federal investigators have previously exposed fraud by the same ACORN/AHCOA affiliate.

Investigate Elena Kagan’s ObamaCare Lies, 49 Congressmen Demand

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch

Back in May I told you that Judicial Watch had uncovered explosive documents from the Obama Department of Justice (DOJ) indicating Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was heavily involved in crafting a defense for Obamacare while she served as Solicitor General. The documents appear to contradict Kagan’s contention that she was merely an uninvolved bystander. Well, now Congress has joined the effort to get to the truth in the matter, calling for a full investigation.

According to today’s The Washington Times:

Forty-nine Republican members of Congress have asked the House Judiciary Committee to “promptly investigate” Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan’s role in preparing a legal defense for President Obama’s health care law when she served as solicitor general.

In a letter to committee Chairman Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, and the panel’s ranking Democrat, John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, the lawmakers said….

Video: Ben Johnson, Explosive Documents Prove Elena Kagan’s Conflict-of-Interest

The American Family Radio Network‘s Crane Durham is one of the best friends truth has on the radio. Crane recently interviewed Ben Johnson on his program “Nothing But Truth,” which is heard on 148 radio stations nationwide. They discussed the reasons Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan must recuse herself from the upcoming lawsuit over ObamaCare — and how the White House is stonewalling requests for documents that prove her conflict of interest. Part two of the interview shifts to an expose of George Soros’ financial influence over the mainstream media. If you enjoy this interview, please thank “Nothing But Truth” host Crane Durham and all the folks at American Family Radio for having me on.

Obama Gives Stimulus Money to Tax Cheats Who Owe Millions

Judicial Watch

In the latest outrage involving President Obama’s disastrous stimulus, a federal probe has determined that thousands of companies that got cash under the fraud-infested program have cheated the government out of hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.

At least 3,700 recipients of stimulus money owe Uncle Sam more than $750 million in taxes, according to a report published this week by the investigative arm of Congress known as the Government Accountability Office (GAO). The recipients got a combined $24 billion in Recovery Act funds, according the probe, which also found that more than a dozen likely committed crimes.

The offenders include individuals, businesses and other entities. Examples listed in the report include a security firm that owed more than $9 million in payroll taxes when it got $100,000 in stimulus funds, a health care nonprofit that received over $100,000 despite bailing on $4 million in payroll taxes and a construction firm that got around $1 million even though it owed the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) over $700,000.

The taxpayer dollars were carelessly disbursed with little scrutiny as part of….

Documents Show Elena Kagan’s Conflict of Interest on ObamaCare

Ben Johnson, The White House Watch

Documents uncovered by a legal watchdog group prove Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was involved in the Obama administration’s legal defense of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as “ObamaCare.”

Judicial Watch has released a number of administration communiqués that show Kagan, who was then Solicitor General, presided over the president’s response to lawsuits asserting the government health care bill is unconstitutional.

On January 8, 2010, Brian Hauck, Senior Counsel to Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli, wrote to Kagan’s deputy, Neal Katyal, asking for the office’s assistance in “how to defend against the inevitable challenges to the health care proposals that are pending.” Three minutes later, Katyal replied, “Absolutely right on. Let’s crush them. I’ll speak with Elena and designate someone.” After Katyal volunteered, Kagan responded, “You should do it.”[1]

A few hours later, Katyal updated Hauck, writing, “Brian, Elena would definitely like OSG [the Office of Solicitor General] to be involved in this set of issues.” Katyal added,”I will handle this myself, along with an Assistant from my office, (Name RedactedBJ), and we will bring Elena in as needed.”(Emphasis added.)

The Justice Department continues to withhold a series of e-mails that would disclose Kagan’s exact role in the negotiations. However, it has turned over the Vaughn index, which describes the items being stonewalled in general terms. These include….
