San Fransisco legislators are reportedly considering an expensive, intrusive, and completely unnecessary ordinance that would force any business with a water fountain to install specialized water bottle filling stations.
The approximately $750 renovation was proposed to help urge citizens to reuse their plastic water bottles rather than discarding them which, as we all know, directly leads to the murder of baby seals. These taps would dispense cold water in a steady stream for those with empty bottles. In other words, they are virtually the same as the spigot of any sink a business might already have.
One of the city’s all-too-rare rational officials made pretty much the same argument, saying water from fountains and from a sink originate at the same source.
Lest I be labeled an environment-hater, I do not endorse tossing water bottles out of the nearest window when their contents are depleated. Recycling is an easy and rewardng option for many Americans, but city governments should not be forced to subsidize it through costly additions. Liberal politicians already add far too much to the bottom lines of entrepreneurs through their constant over-regulation.
If a company thinks offering a service such as water bottle taps would increase their profits, more power to them. To force small businesses to install a contraption that performs exactly the same function as the kitchen sink is a wildly irrational abuse of power.
Business owners, especially in deep blue states like California, are already so scared of the government’s next move that they aren’t hiring; adding even more regulation can only help, right?
The supremely hypocritical aspect of this proposed regulation is that it completely flies in the face of another popular trope among those on the left, claiming the reuse of plastic bottles is akin to playing Russian Roulette.
Liberals try to impose their will over such a broad spectrum of everyday life that it’s impossible for them to keep their rules straight.
