More than four years after U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan went on a shooting spree at Fort Hood, killing 13 individuals and wounding numerous others in the name of Islamic jihad, recent reports indicate the FBI is looking for an individual inspired by that horrendous act of terror.
According to Fox News, a Muslim man recruited by the Army earlier this year is now the subject of a manhunt after investigators determined he was planning a terrorist attack. Muhammad Abdullah Hassan, identified as ‘Booker’ in the report, was set to begin basic training within a week. When officers determined he was planning violence, however, Booker was discharged from the armed forces.
Booker allegedly expressed an “intention to commit jihad,” according to friends, which initiated a search for the potential threat in and around the Kansas City, Mo. area.
The FBI alert, a portion of which was obtained by Fox, indicates in its title that Booker’s plot was inspired by the Fort Hood massacre and would target soldiers. The report’s stated purpose was “to inform and protect officers who may encounter this individual or others exhibiting the same aspirations.”
Kansas City FBI agents initially learned of the threat late last month, the report states, indicating Booker “had publicly stated his intention to commit jihad, bidding farewell to his friends and making comments indicating his jihad was imminent.”
Some experts indicate the report hints at a larger conspiracy involving potential terrorists in addition to Booker.
The U.S. Marine Corps is also involved in the investigation, though a spokesperson indicated the FBI will be handling updates. As of this writing, federal investigators have no further updates.
Though Nidal Hasan was ultimately sentenced to death for his 2009 rampage, his crime left dozens of families shattered and further proved how vulnerable the U.S. remains after 9/11. In the wake of this latest threat, Americans across the nation will be praying for Booker – and any of his nefarious associates – to be apprehended before any more blood is shed.
