Pearl Harbor (And September 11th) Awakened Admiral Yamamoto’s Sleeping American Giant

Pearl Harbor SC Pearl Harbor (And September 11th) Awakened Admiral Yamamotos Sleeping American Giant

I was raised by members of what newsman Tom Brokow called ” the Greatest Generation.” My maternal grandfather helped build Liberty Ships (supply vessels), and my grandmother’s oldest brother was wounded during the Normandy Invasion.

World War II is a life-long fascination, especially the sneak attack that prompted America’s official entry into the war. I’m probably the only Black kid who had his own set of Time Life’s Encyclopedia of World War II.

September 11th, 2001 now probably comes to mind now when the phrase “sneak attack ” is mentioned. Americans should connect the two tragedies, though one was done by a nation while the other was committed by terrorists.

Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto commanded the Japanese fleet during World War II and led it to this and other decisive victories against America.

He also knew his nation couldn’t defeat the United States. His famous quote, “I fear all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant, ” is considered more an invention of screenwriters rather than verifiable opinion.

His misgivings proved prophetic. The December 7th, 1941 surprise attack hastened his departure from this life.

American code-breakers were secretly able to decipher Japanese diplomatic and military traffic, which allowed our fighter planes to shoot him down during an inspection visit.

Dubbed “Operation Vengeance”, there’s no doubt it too came as a surprise on April 18, 1943, the day the Admiral died.

The same can be said of al Qaeda leader Osama Bbn Laden’s May 2, 2011 death when US Navy SEALS ended his terror plotting.

Whether Admiral Yamamoto actually made the famed “sleeping giant” statement or not, one fact is perfectly clear.

The cost of awakening America from her slumber is costly.

Too costly for most to even dare.

The message of these two seminal events is clear: a strong national defense is what keeps sneak attacks from becoming commonplace.

Let’s honor our dead and make sure politicians don’t let America become weak.

Let’s put the hard-won lessons of Pearl Harbor and September 11th into practice to stop more attacks in their infancy.

Does a strong national defense work?

Ask Admiral Yamamoto and Osama bin Laden what happens when you wake up the sleeping American giant.

Lets also not forget another insightful statement, and action, by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor finished, standing orders for the Admiral was to then go up and invade America's mainland. The Japanese government thought that with the destruction of Pearl Harbor, our mainland would be easily invaded.
Admiral Isoroku Yamoto, commander in chief of the Japanese naval forces and architect of the Pearl Harbor bombing, advised against invading. Twenty years prior, Admiral Yamoto had spent a few years in the United States studying at Harvard University. Based on his experience with American culture, Admiral Yamoto reportedly told his government, “I would never invade the United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.”
    History says what happened next.
A key point in history that didn't happen BECAUSE of the armed populous, is lost. Unfortunately, the reality of the benefit of an armed populous is lost on the current generation.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Good post…….too many citizens have no clue about the 2nd Amendment, "A well regulated militia" is their talking point. of course the regulators would be the Government.

      • Seeks_the_truth says:

Thanks. What's even sadder is they tend to forget that it was BECAUSE of the Second Amendment the ONLY reason Japan did not invade our mainland.

Seeks you would have thought that we would have learned the lesson of having to educate foreigners but we are still sending muslim terrorist to our universities like Harvard so they can kill us better. That's all you hear is how we must keep these educated aliens in the US because americans are to stupid even a latino will turn on you

      • Seeks_the_truth says:

Isn't that what a good armed American is for? To take care of these "threats"?
Real Americans know this. It's the brain dead on the left that doesn't.
        Add them in the line.

@Seeks, and others……..did anyone notice how LITTLE was said about this day, December 7th, 1941? How very little “news” spoke of it, if at all, surprised and shocked me, not to mention, deeply saddened me, and problably others deeply saddened also, by the lack of notice shown to this most important remeberance day in our history! This date has always meant something to me, and to many, but yesterday, December 7th, 2012, very, very, VERY little was said about this Rememberance Day on our “news” outlets”, and I am wondering why? Why was this day of our history ignored to the point of insulting to those who were alive, were there, and those who still remember the horror felt that Sunday morning, now 71 years ago? Each year, this date has been memorialized by our “news” outlets, yet………….yesterday, nothing was said!!!! Not one thing on our local news, and I do not think anything much, if anyting at all, was said on what passes for our “national news” at 6, 10 or 11 PM. What happened? Was this date considered now, to be “politically incorrect” or what? How many of you noticed this date being IGNORED BY ALL?? I did. I did not even see one headline on the internet news, AOL or anywhere elsle! This is shameful! We have indeed, FORGOTTEN, not only December 7th, 1941, but we have also FORGOTTEN SEPTEMBER 11, 2001, OUR ACTIONS AND LACK OF ACTIONS ARE THE PROOF! We are now SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY!!!!!!!!!!

    • Seeks_the_truth says:

Just further proof they want to erase or change history. Children aren't even taught about WWII in school any more.

    • Edwardkoziol says:

Dis since I'm one of the others I didn't notice that we didn't hear mch about Pearl Harbor until I read your comment. But your right I guess our media doesn't care about history and probably don't want to upset the Japs like they don't want to upset muslim and their terrorist groups.I remembered Pearl but I guess we're becoming a sleeping midget with Obutthole as our president.
