Today Israel’s Channel 1 quotes a senior American official as the source for a transcript of the recent phone conversation between U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, where Obama demands Israel stop its campaign to destroy Hamas weaponry and tunnel network. The transcript also confirms that no demands were to be placed on Hamas to stop rocketing civilian targets in Israel indiscriminately or to destroy tunnels, and that Obama wanted Israel to have Qatar and Turkey arbitrate any deal between the two warring factions.
Both the White House and the Israelis claim this transcript is fake, but Israel’s Channel 1 is standing by their claims.
As we mentioned on these pages yesterday, these two countries are strong supporters of Hamas, financially and otherwise. Obviously, Israel didn’t take the bait–even though our Dear Leader, according to the transcript, said that “Israel is not in a position to choose its mediators.”
It truly is astonishing to see the outright animosity and subversion shown by this administration to one of America’s strongest allies. If Hamas wanted peace, there would be peace tomorrow. Everyone can see this is the case. The world can see that Hamas does not want peace but just needs some time to rearm before it starts the rocket attacks and tunnel infiltrations again. The sad fact is that Israel, under this American president, can no longer rely on or trust the American government. She is on her own.
Israel will continue to press ahead with the destruction of the tunnels that lead into Israel, where five Israeli soldiers were killed yesterday as Hamas terrorists emerged to kill whomever they could find. The Financial Times reports today that in an audio recording, Mohammad Deif, commander of Hamas’ military wing, said his soldiers were “eager for death”. These are the people Israel is supposed to lay down its arms in front of, according to President Obama and our hapless Secretary of State, John Kerry.
I am sure our other allies around the world are looking at this situation and once again saying: with America as a friend, who needs enemies?
Here’s a copy of the transcript in question:
Barack Obama: I demand that Israel agrees to an immediate, unilateral ceasefire and halt all offensive activities, in particular airstrikes.
Benjamin Netanyahu: And what will Israel receive in exchange for a ceasefire?
BO: I believe that Hamas will cease its rocket fire – silence will be met with silence.
BN: Hamas broke all five previous ceasefires. It’s a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel.
BO: I repeat and expect Israel to stop all its military activities unilaterally. The pictures of destruction in Gaza distance the world from Israel’s position.
BN: Kerry’s proposal was completely unrealistic and gives Hamas military and diplomatic advantages.
BO: Within a week of the end of Israel’s military activities, Qatar and Turkey will begin negotiations with Hamas based on the 2012 understandings, including Israel’s commitment to removing the siege and restrictions on Gaza.
BN: Qatar and Turkey are the biggest supporters of Hamas. It’s impossible to rely on them to be fair mediators.
BO: I trust Qatar and Turkey. Israel is not in the position that it can choose its mediators.
BN: I protest because Hamas can continue to launch rockets and use tunnels for terror attacks -
BO: The ball’s in Israel’s court, and it must end all its military activities.
