Dr. Paul Kengor, The American Spectator

My friend and colleague, Dinesh D’Souza, has advanced an intriguing thesis regarding the roots of Barack Obama, arguing, in short, that to understand Obama, we must understand the anti-colonialism of his African father. Predictably, D’Souza’s thoughts have brought the wrath of the liberal choir.
I’m not going to dissect D’Souza’s argument. But I would like to add some important information: If Obama is indeed motivated by anti-colonialism, the source may be Frank Marshall Davis as much as, if not more than, Obama’s father.
I come to this via a different route from D’Souza. My new book — released the same day as D’Souza’s, coincidentally — examined the communist movement in the 20th century, and specifically how communists duped progressives and liberals. I determined, definitively, that Frank Marshall Davis was not a duped liberal but a duping communist. I show this at length, quoting Davis’s weekly columns from the CPUSA organ, the Honolulu Record, and reprinting pages from Congressional investigations and from Davis’s declassified FBI file, including a document that lists his Communist Party number: 47544.
As to their relationship, Davis was introduced to a teenage Obama in the 1970s by Obama’s leftist grandfather, Stanley Dunham, who sought a father figure for Obama. Of all people to pick, Dunham chose someone summoned before the Senate in 1956 to testify to Communist Party associations.
In Dreams from My Father, Obama recalled fondly how Davis advised him on women, on race, on college, on life. He shared with Obama his “hard-earned knowledge.” Numerous biographical accounts (from the Left, and highly sympathetic) describe Davis as a “mentor,” a “father” figure, and an “important influence” on Obama.

Paul Kengor is a propagandist selling delusions from Right-Wing Fantasyland. He has a history of fabricating evidence against Davis, starting with his fraudulent claim that the NAACP's Roy Wilkins criticized Davis following the 1949 Honolulu NAACP incident (http://www.aim.org/guest-column/return-of-the-dupes-and-the-anti-anti-communists).
"Accuracy In Media" (AIM) posted four conflicting reports, each of which differently misrepresent the Congressional testimony of rookie Honolulu NAACP board member Edward Berman. Just like the Orwellian "Ministry of Truth," AIM has conducted a disinformation campaign against the Obama-Davis relationship, and even had the audacity to post Berman's testimony as Exhibit 4A of http://www.usasurvival.org/docs/hawaii-obama.pdf. Evidently AIM's Cliff Kincaid never thought anyone would take the time to actually READ Berman's testimony, because a simple comparison between the testimony and AIM reports reveals this misrepresentation.
"Falsehoods not only disagree with truths, but usually quarrel among themselves." – Daniel Webster, American, Statesman Quotes
Contrary to the fraudulent memes circulated throughout the blogosphere regarding Davis, University of Kansas Professor Edgar Tidwell, cited by AIM's Cliff Kincaid as an expert on the life and writings of Davis, explains that THESE were the “radical” goals of Frank Marshall Davis: (1) integration of armed forces; (2) integration of AFL and CIO; (3) fair wages and other benefits for workers; (4) general dismantling of all laws supporting racial segregation; (5) end to laws supporting anti-Semitism; (6) end to atomic warfare; (7) rights for soldiers in combat zones to vote in national elections; (8) support for Fair Employment Practices Act; (9) support for a broad United Nations (not just US and Great Britain forming a world power union); (10) end to restrictive covenants in real estate.
You will likely find that these have mostly been transformed from "radical" goals of the 1940s into mainstream 21st century standards. Frank Marshall Davis was not out of line. He was just ahead of his time.
"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened." – Sir Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965)
More Kengor misrepresentation: Analysis of Kengor's "Dupes" suggests that Kengor is still falsifying evidence against Davis. Contrary to Davis's actual 1950 "Frank-ly Speaking" column (http://www.hawaii.edu/uhwo/clear/HonoluluRecord1/frankblog1950.html), Kengor indicates that Davis SUPPORTED socialism, when in fact Davis REJECTED socialism (i.e., letting "the government own and operate our major industries"). Davis said socialism was a "HORROR"! Davis said that we didn't have free enterprise any more. Davis supported small businessmen, which he considered a "casualty" of monopolies. He said they are the BACKBONE of free enterprise." He said we had to decide to OUST the monopolies, which were driving us down the road to ruin, and restore a competing system of free enterprise.
