Obama Promises More Amnesty

Obama Amnesty Never Never Land SC

When Barack Obama issued a fiat declaration of amnesty for illegal immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children, many conservatives astutely predicted it would represent just the tip of the iceberg. Recent comments by White House Domestic Policy Director Cecilia Munoz confirmed those suspicions.

The imperial ruler, she assured an online audience this week, will continue his policy of pandering to those here in violation of our law.

“As long as this president is president,” she said, illegals will “be able to renew [their] deferred action.”

Though Obama originally announced his amnesty plan after legislators rejected similar prior proposals, Munoz claimed he was not really responsible at all. Perhaps his involvement was downplayed because a majority of Americans side with lawmakers who want to protect the nation by strengthening its borders.

Of course, denying culpability has become an instinct within this administration.

“The president doesn’t have the authority to suspend deportations,” Munoz contended, noting that the decree was really an “action by the Department of Homeland Security, and it was a use of its enforcement authority.”

The deferred action, which was supposed to last just two years, now appears destined for a longer shelf life. While such pandering might play well with certain segments of the Hispanic population, the nation as a whole – including those who entered the U.S. through the proper channels – is growing increasingly tired of seeing criminals receive preferential treatment from the federal government.

Recent reports indicate that the 800,000 estimated participants in the program will likely more than triple in the long run. This devastating policy is only exacerbated by the fact that tens of millions of illegals are confidently roaming American streets with little fear of being caught and deported.

An unpopular but necessary adjunct to the immigration debate relates to the value these illegals provide to the nation as a whole. Studies show Americans are nearly four times as likely to have a college degree as those who sneak into the U.S. through the back door.

This means citizens looking for an entry-level position must compete not only with other Americans looking for work in the Obama economy – they must also beat out unskilled illegal immigrants.

The mere fact that Obama’s plan deals with teens and young adults who were brought to the U.S. by their parents does not make it any less destructive. The bottom line is that we have lost all control over our border, and the executive branch is trying to capitalize politically by making sure the problem only gets worse.

Those who value a secure border must remain vigilant in the fight against amnesty by pressuring GOP legislators to rebuke Obama’s decree.
