Proverbs 29:2-”When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”
There once was a land of promise and potential. It was a simple place with simple beliefs and an undercurrent of goodness. The folks believed in the blessings of God, His favor, and His justice. They slept soundly in their beds at night knowing that they were protected by their neighbors, their laws, and their government. They could rely on their values being supported and their freedoms and liberty being assured by those in authority over them.
The land that is referenced in the previous paragraph existed for over 200 years and, when called upon to stand firm for its national values, could produce armies of folks willing to give that “last full measure of devotion” to assure the continuity of its blessed status and the freedoms that its families enjoyed.
Today, its people wake up wondering what has happened to the nation they hardly recognize as the one that the Founders promised. It has been handed over to the lawless, the perverse, and the awful. The law is trampled on, and the foundations of the country are ridiculed and cast aside. There is deep, deep mourning in the hearts of the people, who cry out in prayer to the God who is there, watching and waiting for the repentant hearts to break and return to Him.
We see the violation of God’s promise to the Founding Fathers and the social compact that gained His favor and His blessing. We realize that it is we who have turned our backs on Him and not He, on us. Do we not see that we have earned what we are receiving? Have we connected the dots and seen that the pattern of our collective lives has led us in the wrong direction? A direction away from the statutes of His favor and His guardianship? As the men of old saw in their repentance, “We are undone”, we too are coming apart at the seams, watching as the unbelievable is being visited upon us. Seeing all that we had counted on being stripped away has us shaking our heads and tearing up. We want it to stop.
You want the direction of America to be restored to what it was? Repent. You want a return of God’s blessing and His favor? Repent. You want the evil that is at the head of the nation to be replaced? Repent.
Agree with God, and He will restore our nation. After we have repented, He will show us the way.
