“Leftist policies harm society’s moral character,” says Dennis Prager, syndicated radio host and author of, “Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph.”
America’s largest cities and many states have been run for decades by liberal mayors and administrations and now we are seeing them sinking towards bankruptcy, such as the decay called Detroit. Michigan governor, Rick Snyder, has decreed a takeover of this city government and hired an outside emergency manager with sweeping powers similar to that of a bankruptcy judge to try to salvage this city. Such powers include the ability to toss out unaffordable contracts with public employees unions and vendors, put city assets up for sale, consolidate or eliminate government departments and make further service cuts. Needless to say this is met with much opposition from the public employees and unions.
While the liberals are so certain about the moral superiority of liberal policies, those policies actually diminish a society’s moral character. This tends to make a people worse.
The bigger the government, the less citizens do for each other. Europeans give far less to charity and volunteer less than do Americans. Tocqueville, in the early 19th Century, admired how much Americans–through myriad associations–took care of each other.
Then in the 30s, Franklin Roosevelt began the movement of America toward a European welfare state–vastly expanded by Democrat Presidents since. Churches, Rotary clubs, other free loan societies and other voluntary associations took care of most. But as the state grew, all associations declined. Also, citizens of liberal welfare states become increasingly narcissistic. People’s disdain of work, erodes character, then they develop an entitlement mentality–always a “right” which reinforces this sense of entitlement. “The welfare state is a Ponzi scheme,” says Prager. “The bigger the government, the greater corruption.” ‘Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’
Big businesses can be corrupt, but eventually they are caught or go out of business. Government cannot go out of business. Corrupt businesses cannot print money and they cannot arrest you.
Liberals, in spite of all other evidence, will not respond to arguments to refute the consequences of the welfare state– but cite things like “social justice” and they are so “compassionate” (as long as it is with government money or other people’s money). They label their opponents as “selfish” or “greedy” or they plain “don’t care.” It’s a ‘feel good’ mentality.
According to Dr. Lyle H G. Rossiter, Jr. M.D., and a psychiatrist, in his book, The Liberal Mind, says “modern liberalism irrationality can only be understood as the product of psychopathy.” “He calls it a massive transference neurosis and projection of mostly perceived wrongs when young, so they are therefore victims and so must be others–all this acted out in the world’s political arenas, with devastating effects on the institutions of liberty.” They are going to save, through the government, all the victims they perceive around them. It is infantile, Rossiter claims.
And they don’t have a clue as to how stupid they really are, how misinformed, whether is is over global warming, type of light bulbs we must use, extreme environmentalism, or abortion, liberal education, women’s rights, racism, but just regurgitate what they read or hear from the liberal media or professors in the universities They speak in mantras.
Is it all like a river with God at the bottom, with the devil working the currents, with the seeds and crumbs floating on the top of the river, and with the liberals regurgitating the crumbs and the conservatives being torn along by the currents, –now trying to swim upstream to try to save the river and the country.
