Taking a short respite from constantly echoing the Obama administration’s endorsement of class envy, the mainstream media this week fawned over the opulence associated with a state dinner held Tuesday evening at the White House.
The main focus of many outlets was Michelle’s designer ball gown, which cost an estimated $12,000. In light of her husband’s attempts to portray the unemployment caused by his failed healthcare plan as a positive development for his subjects, she proudly paraded around in the Carolina Herrera-designed gown.
While left-leaning sites like BuzzFeed naturally offered outrageous praise for the fact that Michelle put on a dress, even ostensibly serious outlets like CBS joined in the obsequiousness.
The news organization presented an entire article based solely around the first lady’s gown, using the opportunity to wedge in highly subjective comments about her “famously toned arms” and the dress’ departure from her typically “sleek and glamorous” style.
Furthermore, the network provided only the most sycophantic praise of Michelle, including several comments from Susan Swimmer, who wrote a book that declared Obama the “First Lady of Fashion and Style.”
Perhaps the most blatant media toady within supposedly unbiased media was NBC White House Producer Shawna Thomas. In an all-caps Twitter comment, she exclaimed that America should treat Michelle as a queen strictly because she has a virtually unlimited clothing budget.
HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THE FIRST LADY’S DRESS. #BOWDOWN

The Obamas continually present their luxurious lifestyle – funded by overburdened taxpayers – while millions of Americans suffer through the economic disaster caused by this administration. In return, those in the media who should act as watchdogs only flatter them more in an apparent attempt to curry favor with the ruling family.
This particular gown did not represent the only hypocrisy on full display during the recent dinner. Despite the first lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign, meant to restrict what Americans are able to eat, Barack and Michelle Obama dined on a rich spread of fatty steak, caviar, chocolate cake, cotton candy, and other delicacies.
The entire meal was estimated to reach 2,500 calories, which is more than an entire day’s nutrition for the average adult. As Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis noted, the meal contained “almost three times” as many calories “as what the first lady and the USDA allow our school kids to eat in the school lunch program.”
