Leftist Group Taunts Ted Cruz With Fruit Basket

Considering the amount of effort the left exerts to demonize one senator, it is obvious that Tea Party hero Ted Cruz has a knack for getting under their skin. The latest effort to sully his immense contribution to the conservative cause came with the recent delivery of a fruit basket to Cruz’s office.

While such a gift in almost any other context indicates a kind gesture, the accompanying note revealed its sender’s sinister motive.

The $90 arrangement, which the company that produces it recommends for “your closest friends,” was actually sent by Americans United for Change President Brad Woodhouse. The leftist activist, who previously worked as communications director for the Democrat party, sent Cruz a snide message thanking him for his principled stance on ObamaCare.

Woodhouse sent a “Texas sized thank you” to the senator, indicating that, because of his actions, socialized medicine is “more popular and the GOP is less so.”

The Republican party is suffering in the polls; however, much of the frustration lies in its leadership’s lack of resolve. Cruz understands his mandate as a member of the U.S. Senate. He stands up for the will of his constituency, even if he is the only one to do so.

Despite a moderate increase in ObamaCare favorability, the flawed legislation is far from popular. The general trend has shown that the more individuals learn about the plan, the less supportive of it they become.

Woodhouse, however, is obviously concerned with remaining relevant among the leftist elite. With news of his gag gift becoming the talk of the town in Washington, D.C., he is certainly working toward that end.

Cruz, however, shows no such desire to be liked by his big government peers. As Woodhouse himself declared, Cruz represents the “embodiment of the Tea Party,” members of which he said “don’t care about the Republican Party.”

Though his statement is true to an extent, most conservatives don’t consider the blind allegiance to a political party to be a virtue. Still, Cruz represents a threat to the progressive cause; and, as such, he must be thwarted at all costs.

He has proved time and again that he will not be swayed by outside forces by responding swiftly and resolutely to detractors. During a speech Friday to the Values Voter Summit, he was interrupted at least seven times by leftist hecklers.

In response, he sent a message to Barack Obama, saying that if he “wants to get 100 of his most rabid political operatives in a room, I’ll answer their questions on television as long as he likes.”

In a nod to Obama’s reluctance to answer questions, Cruz submitted that he would like to see the president answer questions from just 10 of the conservatives in attendance.

The Democrat party has long relied on intimidation and ridicule to keep those with opposing views in line. That tactic does not appear to work with the inimitable Ted Cruz.

Would that all our Representatives and Senators had half the morals, half the integrity and half the love of country that Ted Cruz has.
