As online shopping becomes more ubiquitous, the rise of discount sites like Groupon and Living Social was perhaps inevitable. These outlets allow retailers to unload overstock items and event packages at a much lower consumer cost in the hopes of attracting customers who might not have paid the original asking price.
Shoppers across the country can save big on limited time offers by purchasing massages, dinner packages, or just about anything at a steep discount. If Living Social members act fast, they can even score tickets to see likely 2016 Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speak.
Preparing for an event next week in Colorado, organizers apparently had some last-minute jitters regarding unsold tickets at the initial retail price of $175. According to the site, tickets are going for about one-third of that price until the offer expires.
Even at $59 per ticket, though, there have been only 223 takers (as of this writing) for her speech at a venue that can reportedly hold up to 7,500 attendees.
For a limited time Thursday, the price dropped even further to $53 per ticket, with no noticeable effect on sales.
As with other listings, Living Social provides a detailed description of Clinton and the event, suggesting her “’smart power’ approach to foreign policy repositioned American diplomacy and development for the 21st century.”
The entry called her “a champion of human rights, democracy, and opportunities for women and girls,” contending she “also worked hard to provide health care to millions of children, create jobs and opportunity, and support first responders who risked their lives at Ground Zero.”
With three days left to buy, it remains to be seen how many supporters will take advantage of the slashed ticket price. No matter the ultimate turnout at her upcoming speech, though, Clinton will undoubtedly reach a much larger audience during an interview set for later in June.
Fox News announced that two of its hosts – Bret Baier and Greta Van Susteren – will conduct a joint half-hour interview with Clinton on their respective shows June 17.
