Not only did the Obama administration send 760 of the unaccompanied minors flooding across the Mexico border to Tennessee, but Gov. Bill Haslam said he had no forewarning that the shipment was headed his way. In fact, he penned a letter to Barack Obama in which he confirmed the only reason he knows that the illegal immigrant dump took place is because of a post on the Department of Health and Human Services’ website.
Calling the lack of notice “unacceptable,” Haslam indicated that his administration has yet to be notified of the delivery from anyone representing the federal government.
“I still have not been contacted and have no information about these individuals or their sponsors other than what was posted on the HHS website,” he wrote.
Haslam responded harshly to the Obama administration’s handling of the ongoing border crisis, indicating that the large number of unwelcome intruders could have serious repercussions for his state.
“An influence of unaccompanied immigrant children to the state, with little information being made available to the public or to state leaders, creates confusion and could be very problematic,” he wrote.
Included in his terse letter to Obama is a list of questions he wants answered regarding why illegals are being dropped off in states across the nation without even mentioning the delivery to the leaders of affected communities.
Haslam specifically requests information regarding whether the children underwent medical exams, where they were released within his state, how long they will be there, and whether their sponsors were subject to any background screening.
The Republican governor has received support from other prominent Tennesseans, including state representative hopeful Dan Howell.
“I believe in legal immigration,” he said in an interview with Fox News correspondent Todd Starnes; “but I support Gov. Haslam’s response to the president’s decision, which is an outrage.”
Howell went on to conclude that Obama’s policies are “putting a strain on Tennessee’s resources, but what’s more unfortunate is the hardship his actions are imposing on these children and the fact the president is ignoring the law and refusing to seal the border.”
