If You Are Pro-Family, Pro-Life, This Alaska GOP Candidate Is Deceiving You

Ever wonder why so-called pro-life, pro-family candidates never lift a finger for family values once they get to Washington? Maybe if the pro-family community did a better job of vetting their pro-family candidates, this wouldn’t happen.

This weekend, Alaska’s Lt Governor Mead Treadwell (right in photo above) is in Washington DC seeking the support of the pro-family movement for his campaign to become Alaska’s new US Senator. I doubt he will tell the gathered conservative leaders what some simple research exposed about his true core beliefs.

Mead is like many GOP candidates who in every election cycle tout so-called “Family Values” while campaigning to win Republican primaries; but for them, it is an exercise of guile and deceit.

Treadwell is running for the Republican nomination in Alaska as a pro-life, traditional values kind of guy. The only problem is, as it turns out, he’s been working for the other side too.

As recently as 2010, Treadwell supported liberal pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Republican Lisa Murkowski, who was defeated in the Republican primary by Joe Miller, a staunch supporter of the pro-life cause and advocate for traditional marriage.

Treadwell let the proverbial cat out of the bag in a March 2013 article with Politico Magazine.

“I voted for Lisa Murkowski in the primary and in the general, and I think Alaskans made the right decision,” Treadwell said.

Murkowski has a long history of support for “abortion rights.” In fact, one of her earliest votes in the US Senate was a sense of the Senate amendment affirming Roe v. Wade.

It read: “It is the sense of the Senate that: the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned.”

Senator Murkowski has also been an outspoken advocate of federal funding for Planned Parenthood, accused Republicans of a “War on Women,” supported the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” publicly voiced support for the Anchorage Prop. 5 Initiative(ENDA), voted for ENDA in the Senate, and “came out” in support of same-sex marriage.

Treadwell has already donated toward her 2016 re-election.

But his support for the enemies of the pro-life, pro-family movement doesn’t end there. A cursory glance at his political contributions reveals past monetary donations to numerous other socially liberal Republicans.

The most stunning revelation, however, is Treadwell’s support for two uber-liberal Democrats who served on the Anchorage Assembly: Matt Claman and Sheila Selkregg.

Matt Claman is the former Chair of the Anchorage Assembly and interim Mayor of Anchorage who supported the local ENDA ordinance, and advocated for the same measure when it appeared on the local ballot as Prop. 5. Selkregg also strongly supported these measures.

Claman is now a Democrat candidate for State House who proudly displays the fact that he has served on the board of Planned Parenthood of Alaska.

While Treadwell is reported to also have supported pro-life and pro-family causes and candidates, certainly one has to question whether these are core values, or just another political game.

Only a foolish Christian, pro-life voter would embrace a candidate like Mead Treadwell and expect him to work for life in Washington, DC.

  3. Sic Semper Tyrannis says:

When you consider that Democrat and Republican Secretaries of State all across the land allowed Obama on the ballot, you understand that they are all in bed together in this RICO crime syndicate.

  4. This is yet another excellent reason to support the Libertarian Party. I am a pro-life Libertarian. While we are not yet a majority within the party, at least you know what you are getting. See http://www.l4l.org for more information about Libertarians for Life.

  5. This is much like Jeff Flake of Arizona. Seemed conservative until he got to DC and then joined John McCain in his antics being one of the eight passing the Senate's amnesty plan..

  6. Tim Lucas says:

America is like a simple man ripe for deceit. When the media doesn't do their job in vetting a candidate then there is no check and balance. They stopped with Obama. Look at the results as he hasn't told the truth one day since office. Americans just like veterans dying every day. More businesses closing than opening with the installation of obamacare which the people can't afford sold on a lie. Lie's about that smidgeon with four full blown scandals. How about that deception of hope and change. We are out of hope because nothing has changed but gotten worse but vetting information was available had not so many run down Rush Limbaugh because he was correct. Why wouldn't you want this man to fail leading this country to European demise. Americans have the job the media will not do in vetting your candidate before you vote or as most Americans do by staying home and then bitchhing. If you don't get involved then you have no say.

  7. This jerk is another Boehmer or McCain. How dare he considers himself a GOP. He's just another Obummer sheeple…I hope he never gets into office.
