Columnist George Will wrote recently about a lesbian couple in New Mexico that tried to hire a photographer, Elaine Huguenin, to shoot their “commitment ceremony” (New Mexico has banned same-sex marriages). Mrs. Huguenin, a Christian who doesn’t approve of same-sex marriages, turned down the job.
No problem, right? Just hire another photographer, right?
Wrong.
The lesbian couple instead made a mountain out of the proverbial molehill by filing a civil rights complaint against Mrs. Huguenin, claiming her photography service was a “public accommodation” – like a hotel or restaurant – that discriminated against the couple based on sexual orientation.
Not surprisingly, but no less insane, the New Mexico Human Rights Commission agreed with the lesbians and hit Mrs. Huguenin with $6,600 worth of attorney fees. The case is now moving to the New Mexico Supreme Court where, if there is still justice in the world, the court will toss the case if not torch it.
Me…I couldn’t care less if gays get married. How does that hurt me or my marriage? Live and let live, I say.
But for the government to have the power to force a private business owner to photograph a wedding against her wishes and religious beliefs is outrageous. And this is EXACTLY what Sen. Barry Goldwater warned us about way back in 1964 when the Civil Rights Act was being debated in Congress. From his book, “Where I Stand”…
The two portions of this bill to which I have constantly and consistently voiced objections, and which are of such overriding significance that they are determinative of my vote on the entire measure, are those which would embark the Federal government on a regulatory course of action with regard to private enterprise in the area of so-called ‘public accommodations’ and in the area of employment…
I find no constitutional basis for the exercise of Federal regulator authority in either of these two areas; and I believe the attempted usurpation of such power to be a grave threat to the very essence of our basic system of government…
One by-product of the Civil Rights Act was that the government began promoting reverse-discrimination against whites based on race in order to promote preferences for non-whites based on race. And this is acceptable in a nation that prides itself on “equal justice under law”…how?
In any event, it was perfectly appropriate for Congress to outlaw racial discrimination for the purposes of government; however, interfering in the private affairs of private individuals in such matters was not only unconstitutional, but opened our society up to all kinds of unintended consequences.
Such as a pair of lesbians suing to force somebody to take their picture.
Goldwater was right. Liberal social engineers were wrong. History now bears that out.

These lesbians are just insane. They should be jailed for filing such a frivolous law suit. Ms. Huguenin is well with in her rights to refuse such a vile request.
Shame on them and a big cheer for Ms. Huguenin. These Lesbians are just scum.
Such social power to control our daily lives will on y increase if Obama is reelected and continues to trample our Constitution and rule by Executive Oreder. Romney will halt this perverted move toward more socialism. Don't let Obama destroy what it has taken more than 200 years to build.
Obama will see that these people are not haraased and will give them the means to live a good life without having to work and be insulted by others. He will need more tax dollars to pay for these mistreated people, so plese don't complain when your taxes are incresed by 25 or 30 percent.
Sec Clinton is flying around spending millions to get the world to understand that we must support gay people. They should not be forced to live by the same standards as the rest of us. Since she and the President are both homosexuals of privilege they want others to be as well. They appointed a gay man to be Ambassador to Libya to show the worl that they are accomplished reliable persons. The Muslims murdered him and three other Americans in cold blood. They knew these peaceful persons were unarmed and had no ill will towards anyone.
I am gay myself and I do not agree with what is happening with the gay agenda in this country. I have not lived a lifestyle for 22 years because I want my soul to get into heaven. Mister Obama has turned everyone in this country against each other Because the Muslims know that divide and conquer works. They have time Republicans against Democrats gays against straights blacks against whites religions against each other etc. If we do not unite to fight this common cause this country will be lost.
Please do not judge all gay people because all gays are not the same just as all straight people are not the same. hatred is rampant in this country and God only lets love into heaven…. I hope everyone can find peace in their hearts before God decides it is there time.
From what I am told by other gay people mister Obama is not gay but has a mental condition. he does not reciprocate with anyone gay but only allows himself to be given oral sex by someone else and only by older white men. This man hates all Americans white black gay Jewish Christian it does not matter. he is only using this ploy to get the minotities and illegals to fight the whites and others when he does his final take over. Most gay people know this but the blacks are the ones who are still in the dark. His hatred will be equal for all when h is take over occurs. This Muslim is deceitful vicious And I don’t think any true words have come out of his mouth since he falsely got into the presidency. I do not believe in gays being married or having children. children need a male and female adult role models. This is not just a takeover of our country but for world government and world banks and the United Nations should be banned from America
