There is little question among millions of concerned parents that the ultimate goal of the public education system is to indoctrinate the next generation with leftist propaganda. The only real roadblocks along this destructive path are those very parents.
One state senator in New York, however, wants to address the potential impediment by requiring guardians to attend mandatory state-mandated parenting classes before their children can advance from sixth to seventh grade.
Outrageously, Democrat state Sen. Ruben Diaz proposed a bill that would force parents to attend four such classes, with the ostensible goal of producing better parenting skills.
In actuality, this would be just another way for an overly intrusive government to force its way into the private lives of citizens. These classes would open the door for government operatives to identify politically incorrect parenting styles and potentially remove children from those they feel are instilling anti-statist values.
Granted, such concern is mere speculation at this point; however, given the current trajectory of education and government interference, it is no longer an unthinkable scenario for many Americans.
Big City Moms co-founder Leslie Venokur explained her disapproval of the bill in an interview with a local Fox affiliate. She said the classes would be developed by the Board of Regents, which develops tests, and the education commissioner.
“I think they should stick to what they’re good at, which is teaching kids,” she said, “and stay away from the parents.”
In general, she cautioned, any effort by the state to circumvent a parent’s role is a dangerous proposition.
“For somebody to teach you how to parent – especially parent your own children – I just think is insane,” she concluded.
Naturally, some New Yorkers are behind this unnerving proposition.
“You need a license to fish,” said one woman, “but anybody can be a parent; and there are some really bad parents out there.”
While it is unquestionably true that some parents are failing their children, allowing bureaucrats to determine how all children must be raised is a terrifying concept.
