An overwhelming 75% of voters according to a Gallup poll don’t view Mitt Romney’s wealth as an election problem, believing the U.S. benefits from having a rich-class and would like to be rich themselves, writes Gallup’s Frank Newport. But . . .
To President Barack Obama, “rich” appears to be a dirty word. He continues to demonize the success of wealth accumulation, trampling and verbally degrading the dignity of the American dream . . .the freedom to walk the golden-paved roads of opportunity that leads to wealth.
What is the president’s campaign’s justification when he insists that Americans can’t have a culture that incurs selfishness?
Does he mean the selfishness of wealth built on individual sweat-equity and achievement, an individual willingness to risk all, or a charitable heart giving to those who have fallen on less fortunate times? Or was he touting class warfare attempting to paint his opponent Mitt Romney as a selfish rich man?
One might ask the modern day father of welfare: how should God approve the handling of his desire to rob Peter and gift the robbery to Paul, from those who have earned it to those who have no right to it? Is it to curry favor, perhaps a vote?
To say Romney is not compassionate is absurd. The existence of the wealthy class is why the greatness of America exists, along with the ingenuity, guts, and brawn of its citizenry, the ilk of our founding fathers.
Are voters being fair in their analysis of Obama’s fodder of Mitt Romney? In the past two years, the Romneys have given $7 million dollars to charity plus $2 million in non-cash contributions and paid Uncle Sam $6.2 million in federal taxes; in addition, they maintain a renewable $10 million dollar foundation given away annually.
The president continues attacking the cogs in the wheel of American success, you the taxpayer, when he attempts to berate individual initiative, stating you didn’t become successful on your own. You didn’t make things happen; somebody else did.
The president has it backwards. It was a new breed of people seeking freedom who gave birth to a government, as President Abraham Lincoln states in his Gettysburg Address, “for the people, and by the people.”
This is America, where entrepreneurs have earned the right to the profits from their endeavors of long days, haunting uncertainty, sleepless nights, and the capitalization of their own invested money after paying suppliers, bankers, and salaries and reinvesting back into the future of Americans they employ and those they don’t.
With wealth comes the wisdom of experience and the accumulation of individual power, the kind in this election year that could prevent the president from using his position to change America into a European state of dependency and welfare.
The Jews never thought the holocaust would happen, Americans never envisioned a 9.11, and the president never expected an opponent like Mitt Romney, who actually has a verifiable record of success.
