In a less-than-surprising report by CNN Monday, the party behind an ongoing refusal to pass a federal budget is itself millions of dollars in debt. The announcement came after a number of creditors anonymously complained the Democratic National Committee is not honoring its repayment promises. CNN indicates the DNC is more than $18 million in the red.
The generally leftist network referred to “senior strategists” who “worry the organization appears to have no read map back to solvency.”
Though Democrats are notoriously inept in economic matters, some suggest the DNC’s current fiscal crisis stems from Barack Obama’s shell group, Organizing for America. Initially announced as a non-profit organization as Obama campaigned for a second presidential term, the 501(c)(4) group has since been on the receiving end of donations once directed toward the DNC.
According to the CNN report, only three of 13 high-level donors who supported OFA in early 2013 also supported the DNC throughout those months — despite the fact all 13 have historically given to the committee.
An anonymous source close to the Democrat party explained prospective donors are being “pulled in two directions,” adding there is “absolutely no doubt it’s impacted the DNC’s fundraising.”
While one group continues to receive funding at the expense of the other, Democrats might find themselves in trouble as the 2016 presidential election nears. Since OFA is a non-profit organization, Republican counterparts will work to make sure it does not violate applicable laws by aligning with any potential candidate. Such coordination is entirely within the purview of a financially destitute DNC.
Since his first day in office, Obama has acted as though his campaign never ended. Instead of addressing his own administration’s plan for the future, he relies solely on trashing the opposing view. In addition, he has issued countless fundraising calls for his OFA slush fund, draining the resources of those who might otherwise support the DNC.
After five years of disastrous policies resulting in a seemingly insurmountable mountain of U.S. debt, it seems Democrats themselves are finally starting to experience the effects of Obama’s financial irresponsibility.
