At this point in American culture, it might be hard to remember that only a few short years ago, there were basically just two options when describing one’s gender. Barring the extreme medical anomaly, people neatly fit into either the ‘male’ or ‘female’ camp, based primarily on their respective genetic makeup.
With the unprecedented prevalence of political correctness ushered in during the past generation or so, however, such categories have been ruled far too exclusionary for those who choose to identify with some unorthodox term. Whether one chooses to embrace the opposite, both, or neither gender, society is now expected to not only accept but somehow endorse his or her decision.
The entire issue has grown so incredibly convoluted that even members of this strange community can no longer keep their proclivities in order. That fact is disturbingly evident in new profile options being introduced on Facebook.
While it might appear that gender options might include everyone with a maximum of three choices – male, female, and other – the social media giant is actually introducing an unbelievable 50 titles. The change is supported by Facebook software engineer and gender-reassignment patient Brielle Harrison.
The self-identified transwoman said that being asked to provide a gender is “kind of disheartening because none of those let us tell others who we really are.”
Despite the fact that users can enter their own unique identification under the current format, Facebook seems anxious to offer an array of bizarrely specific terms to describe its gender-bending users. Individuals can choose from options including “androgynous,” “gender fluid,” and “intersex,” among dozens of others.
Activist Nori Herras-Castraneda said the transgender community will “face some problems, no doubt,” but celebrated the “very big advance” to the cause. As for Facebook, it appears everyone involved – including founder Mark Zuckerberg – is fully on board with the change.
Growth Director Alex Schultz said it is “not really cool” to offer less than 50 gender options, explaining he hopes the change will lead to a “more understanding and tolerant world.”
Toleration is one thing; but for millions of traditional Americans, the move merely signifies this nation’s continued embrace of sexual perversion and is legitimizing lifestyles contrary to God’s plan.
Focus on the Family’s Jeff Johnston said it is “impossible to deny the biological reality that humanity is divided into two halves – male and female,” explaining that while some may contend otherwise, “just saying it doesn’t make it so.”
As will any true Christian, he said he and his group “have a great deal of compassion for those who reject their biological sex and believe they are the opposite sex.” The advocacy of such perversion, however, is only reinforcing what many truly believe is a sinful and detrimental life choice.
