Cruz Tops GOP’s Presidential Wish List

Ted Cruz SC 300x199 Cruz Tops GOPs Presidential Wish List

A recent Public Policy Polling report indicates the political star of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, continues to ascend in light of his marathon speech railing against ObamaCare. When asked whom they would most like to see emerge as the 2016 presidential candidate, more Republicans chose Cruz than any other politician.

Considering the agency’s polling also shows the GOP overwhelmingly approves of a government shutdown in the fight to de-fund the healthcare law, Cruz’s relentless support of that position has likely aided in his recent popularity spike.

Cruz now leads his closes competitor, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., by three points, representing an eight-point gain in support for the Cuban-American conservative. Among the als0-rans named in the poll are New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 14 percent of the respondents’ support, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 11 percent. One in 10 gave a nod to either Sen. Marco Rubio or Rep. Paul Ryan.

Among those who identify as very conservative, the disparity between potential candidates was more pronounced. Cruz ran away with the win in that contest, attracting twice as much support as his nearest rival Paul.

Another positive trend for the Republican’s conservative base is found in the level of trust the party has in Cruz. Compared to Senate Minority Leader and political squish Mitch McConnell, the GOP trusts Cruz more by a margin of 49 to 13. Respondents embraced similar confidence in Cruz when compared to both House Speaker John Boehner and former presidential candidate John McCain.

These results are encouraging as many frustrated Republicans have long lamented the absence of strong conservative leadership within the party. After a strong Senate win, beating an established candidate in Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Cruz has not shied away from sometimes difficult political battles.

His dedication and resiliency has apparently gained traction as polling shows him to be — at least for now — the clear leader of the Republican party. While that undoubtedly frustrates the career politicians who value compromise over principle, Cruz’s unique style is a breath of fresh air for the American people.

  1. Cruz and Rubio are not eligible and both know it. If the GOP can't find one eligible candidate in all of the United States, then it should close the door and board it up.

    • Edwardkoziol says:

I beg to difer with you both men are just as eligible as that sand monkey we have in there now.Marco was born in america which like todays illegals are Americans by birth.

      • Two wrongs don"t make a right, if 0 gets away with it and we accept Cruz then we have said that it is ok for anyone from anywhere to lead our country–just what the New World Order wants.. How about a head hunter from the jungles of New Guinea sitting in the Oval Office?

I keep believing that the Constitution is where we draw the line.

  2. I stand with Cruz! If Cruz is not eligible as some say, then remove Obama NOW! Cruz gave up his duel citizenship years ago. his mother is American. Obama never did! and NEVER reclaimed his American citizenship! So who is the impostor? Obama!
