Chris Matthews SC Chris Matthews Begs Viewers to Watch Hardball in New Time Slot

During his “Let Me Finish” segment on Monday night’s 5 p.m. edition of Hardball, host Chris Matthews virtually begged viewers to watch his show, as it will air only once a night, at 7 p.m., starting next week.

Matthews called it his “big ask” as he requested that viewers adjust their evening ritual. He likened it to when you ask someone to marry you:

I know from experience from the political world in which I live, the importance of asking. You’d ask to borrow the car from your dad. You’d ask a girl for a date. You ask someone to marry you, ultimately if you’re lucky, you ask. So now I’m asking you.

Hardball is making way for the return of Ed Schultz from weekend purgatory in an effort to bolster MSNBC’s sagging ratings. The network replaced Schultz in the 8 p.m. hour with Chris Hayes, in an attempt to attract a younger audience—a move that has failed miserably.

With their ratings sagging, MSNBC isn’t done shuffling its lineup. But they will probably wait until Fox News confirms their new primetime lineup, starting next month, before making any more moves.
