At 46% approval, Gallup’s new numbers show Barack Obama is still under the 50% he needs for re-election. With the exception of Harry Truman, no president has been re-elected with a sub 50% approval rating. The rest of Gallup’s message holds more bad news for Obama.
He hasn’t averaged 50% approval for a full month since last May when we killed bin Laden. His previous full month of 50% approval was February 2010.
Gallup reports that the much talked about BIG lead Obama has with women really isn’t very big at all. In 2008, Obama won women 56/43. Al Gore and John Kerry both won women (with 54% and 51% respectively), and both lost anyway.
Today, Gallup says Obama’s approval with women is at 49%; this is off 7 points since 2008.
In 2008, Obama won 18 – 29 year olds 66/31; they now approve of Obama at just a 54% rate. He won Hispanics 67/31, but that’s down to 55% approval. Although only 45% of those over 65 voted for Obama, that’s down to 41%. Working your “retirement” as a Walmart greeter will do that.
Overall, Democrat support has fallen 3 points to 83%, which is important because it is moving in the wrong direction. His support among independents has shrunk to 42%, a 10 point slip from 2008.
Obama has even lost 6 points (95%, now 89%) among blacks. Of course, this number will balloon to 100% on Election Day, but how can this be helpful to his re-election? The problem with this number and the numbers for 18 to 29 year olds is enthusiasm to vote. Among both groups, it is down sharply.
In March 2008, 78% of blacks were enthusiastic to vote, and 76% of young voters were enthusiastic to vote. Today, only 48% of both groups are enthusiastic. This is why the Left is carrying on the Zimmermen/Martin circus.
Obama captured 43% of the overall white vote in 2008; now, Gallup reports that his approval among whites (the largest voting bloc) is 37%.
Obama has lost ground with every group, is 7 points off with women, and under 50% in terms of overall approval.
Maybe Gallup needs to glue the happy face mask on Obama’s campaign. That seems like the only way it will stick.

Unfortunately republicans are obviously not serious about winning the 2012 election. If they were serious they would not be in the process of running their worst candidate. The nomination of romney is just absolutely disgusting. I predict that romney will lose by a wider margin than McCain.. By running romney they are denying real Conservatives a clear choice in November and that will give obama the win he needs. I expect obama and his machine to chew his opposition up and spit him out as totally undesirable. romney has few defenses to put up and they will not be enough to win or even be close to a win. romney is now the front runner by default. He otherwise could not sew up the nomination because he is very weak. So far romney has been treated with kid gloves. Obama will not go easy on him and romney will make obama smell like a rose. We all should be protesting loud and long about the votes being counted in Spain. We Americans are well able to count our own votes. We should demand a photo I D and a paper trail. I don't believe any poll, as I believe they just say what they want us to believe. I am 86, and have never in my life been called by any poll. i am not enthused about 'Romney, but will vote for him rather than split the vote, because that is the only way we can eliminate the current administration. That is if the voting is legal and fair. Rand is good, but is unable to win the election, and voting a write in vote for him will only give the democrats more votes.

However it has been reported either on this site or another of my news sites that the Spanish company that will be doing the tabulation of our votes is owned partially or totatly by Mr. George Soros himself. Now that should build your confidence about a fair election even more. Also, as I understand, once the vote has been caste a virus in the software will turn every third or fourth vote into one for our dear leader if that vote was not already for him. At the end of the voting the virus will delete itself so that there will be no trace. Also, votes from the districts in the U.S.A that have used the computer to vote will be cleansed so that you will have no way of a recount or clearing disputes. I will let your imagination toy with all the possibilities. In the way of a disclaimer, it is fact that Soros is owner or part owner of the Spanish firm. Of course Obama can win, regardless of poll numbers. He has already taken strong steps to steal the election by having Eric Holder attack any attempt for voter ID by every state that tries it. I read yesterday that a Spanish firm will count the votes, which is such an outrage it is hard to imagine that our Congress would allow it. By the way, where are the Republicans? Are they comatose or complicit in what is going on? Folks, we are in big trouble here, and it doesn't look like any heroic rescue is about to happen.
