Initial reports out of Centennial, Colo., a town south of Denver, indicate that Arapahoe High School is on lockdown after a school shooting earlier today. Witnesses say at least two individuals were shot in the school cafeteria.
Developing reports indicate the suspected gunman is dead and at least one victim remains in critical condition. The school is in the same district as Columbine High School, the scene of a deadly shooting in 1999.
This shooting comes just one day before the one-year anniversary of another mass shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Conn. The school is also located just south of Aurora, the city in which James Holmes allegedly gunned down dozens of people in a movie theater, killing 12.
Local media reports that a tactical vehicle is on the scene at this time, and a number of area schools are under increased security as a result of the continuing threat. The Western Center for Journalism will have more details as they become available.
