The video directly tied American bombing of the Islamic State with the beheading. A voice at the beginning of the movie says that “Obama authorizes military operations against the Islamic State effectively placing America upon a slippery slope towards a new war front against Muslims.”
The video zooms to Foley, who says: “I call on my friends, family, and loved ones to rise up against my real killers: the U.S. government.”
Foley is then beheaded onscreen. His head is placed on his body by one of the militants.
Another journalist, Steven Sotloff, is shown.
The voice behind the video says, “The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision.”
Who are James Foley and Steven Sotloff?
James Foley was a photojournalist who worked for various news agencies. He went missing while covering the Syrian conflict in 2012, an event that was ruled a kidnapping by the FBI. Steven Sotloff is a journalist who was captured while covering the Syrian conflict as well.
How should America respond to this beheading of one of its own?
