BAM! What This Major-Media Ultra-Lib Just Wrote About Obama May Have Dems In A Cold Sweat

Obama Democrats

When an oft-quoted opinion writer for the Washington Post who generally jumps to the defense of President Obama begins to sound more like a conservative Fox News contributor, it’s certainly worth noting.

In a piece entitled “President Obama’s Unnerving Happy Talk,” the Post’s Dana Milbank points out the president’s apparent disconnect with the real world of violence and volatility on the international front.

“President Obama is not worried. And that is unnerving,” Milbank begins his criticism of a Commander in Chief who seems either unaware of looming terror threats or unwilling to acknowledge them.

…the day Britain raised its terrorism threat level to “severe” — Obama delivered a very different message when he spoke to donors at a fundraiser in New York’s Westchester County.

“Yes, the Middle East is challenging, but the truth is it’s been challenging for quite a while,” [said Obama]. “I promise you things are much less dangerous now than they were 20 years ago, 25 years ago or 30 years ago.”

While saying he hopes the president’s “chill out” pep talk proves accurate, Milbank adds that “the happy talk is not reassuring.”

The president’s happy talk is contradicted even by fellow Democrats (“I’ve learned one thing about this president, and that is he’s very cautious, maybe in this instance too cautious,” Senate intelligence committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell) and by figures in his own administration. (Attorney General Eric Holder said the reported work in Syria on undetectable explosives is “more frightening than anything I think I’ve seen as attorney general.”)

Dana Milbank doesn’t come right out and say that President Obama is disconnected and detached, but his uncharacteristically critical piece is akin to what commentator Charles Krauthammer said Tuesday on Fox News’ “Special Report”. (H/T: breitbart.com):

“[Obama is] the image of a man in denial on the verge of delusion,” Krauthammer said. “This is a man who narrowly redefining the threat, essentially saying a drone strike here and a drone strike there and that’s all that we have to do. The global war on terror he declared to be over or an exaggeration or something intolerable in which he said the tide of war is receding and we can’t tolerate an endless war. And here’s a man who comes into office and denies the existence of global war on terror and what do we see? An attack in Somalia from al Shabaab, we have Boko Haram in Nigeria kidnapping and enslaving women, massacring Christians.”

A new poll by Investor’s Business Daily finds that Obama’s approval ratings on major issues of national concern are generally under water with the American public…deeply under water:

Just 31% give him an “A” or “B” for his handling of the economy, 29% good marks for his management of the federal budget and 32% on how he’s doing on creating jobs and growth. Among independents, the numbers are 19%, 17% and 23%, respectively.

Just 31% approve of the way Obama has handled the growing Islamic State crisis. Nearly two-thirds (63%) oppose his plans to grant unilateral amnesty to millions of illegals. And 53% oppose his signature health care law.

One must also note that vulnerable Senate Democrats running for re-election are often running away from Obama, as Politico observes:

In an election that Republicans want to make all about President Barack Obama, the White House is determined to make him all but disappear in the battleground states that matter.

…in the red states that will determine control of the Senate, Obama will remain scarce. That means no personal campaign visits to states like Arkansas, Alaska, Louisiana and North Carolina.
