Dissecting Team Obama’s Latest Campaign “Strategy”

Barack Obama 5 SC Dissecting Team Obamas Latest Campaign Strategy

I awoke to a hilarious new trend on Twitter surrounding a digital/fake American citizen named “Julia” that was featured on BarackObama.com detailing how awesome life would be if Obama were re-elected this upcoming November. Hence, shaping the narrative of the President’s new “Forward” re-elect slogan.  It also details how she is on the verge of a dismal existence if Mitt Romney were to be elected president. While this powerpoint presentation is meant to illustrate a stark contrast between the president and his presumptive Republican opponent, the dystopia Team Obama depicts is grossly inaccurate and fraught with hyperbole. For example, “at age 65 Julia enrolls in Medicare.”

Under President Obama: Julia enrolls in Medicare, helping her to afford preventive care and the prescription drugs she needs.

Under Mitt Romney: Medicare could end as we know it, leaving Julia with nothing but a voucher to buy insurance coverage, which means $6,350 extra per year for a similar plan.

I understand that the shaping the narrative around Republicans getting old people would mobilize the geriatric brigade, but sadly, neither Congressman Ryan or Mitt Romney are the enemies of Medicare.  It is Mr. Arithmetic.  The system is simply not able to sustain itself due to increased longevity spawned by competent medicine.  As I’ve stated in the past, this is a great human achievement, but it’s also incredibly expensive.  Our current system will fail to cover Medicare recipients’ hospital bills by 2024.  However, all is well if Obama is still on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue because everything falls into place with his boyish charm.

When “Julia” retires at age 67 and begins receiving Social Security, the narrative of “Obama good and Mitt bad” is reiterated again.

Under President Obama: Julia retires. After years of contributing to Social Security, she receives monthly benefits that help her retire comfortably, without worrying that she’ll run out of savings. This allows her to volunteer at a community garden.

Under Mitt Romney: Julia’s benefits could be cut by 40%.

Again, people are living longer, and the system’s original parameters are fiscally unsustainable with our county’s future demographic projections.  For example, when Social Security was instituted under FDR, the average time between retirement and death was two years.  That figure has increased by two decades.  Additionally, the fastest growing segment of our population are the “very elderly,” people who are people 85 or older, who will total more than the combined populations of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles by 2050. Moreover, today, tomorrow, and every day for the next two decades, 10,000 baby-boomers will be eligible for Medicare and Social Security benefits.  George Will has discussed this problem ad nauseam, and it’s about time that President Obama takes notice. By 2025, there will be a paltry two workers per retiree, which is staggering, considering it used to be fourteen workers per retiree in 1950.  That is only if we can assume a steady influx of immigration into this country.  Where is that mentioned in your little slideshow, Team Obama?

Conservatives should mock this 6th grade presentation of the two Americas we will be voting on come November. It’s an utterly sophomoric presentation since Obama’s record doesn’t provide much hope (no pun intended).  Kevin Williamson delivered a rather hilarious repudiation of this “Julia” slideshow on National Review writing:

10 years: Trapped in a failing and dangerous public school, Julia (another Julia, not the dead one) is terrified and miserable. Under the Obama administration, protecting the government education monopoly from competition and accountability is almost as sacrosanct as abortion. School-choice programs are severely constrained or eliminated. Julia falls behind.

57 years: Julia (different Julia, not one of the dead ones) has been paying very high taxes for most of her life, mainly to support three federal programs: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. In fact, the payroll tax diverts about 12 percent of her income — income she might have saved — into the entitlements. Under President Obama, stubborn refusal to reform these unsustainable entitlements means that the programs have to be radically cut or entirely eliminated, and Julia and her whole generation get hosed in spite of the fact that they have been taxed for decades under the phony promise that they were “paying into” the programs. The only alternative to massive cuts was an 88 percent increase in all federal taxes, which already have been rising to offset costs from Obamacare, which were wildly underestimated.

88 years: Julia (different Julia) passes away in 2022. And she got out just in time: Policies adopted by the Obama administration sent the national debt to $71,000 per person and climbing.

In all, this magical mystery tour is the personification of Mitt’s warnings about Obama’ s government-centered society that tramples individual liberty and makes every citizen dependent on government for everything from health care to toilet paper.  In every slide, it details a fake woman and her warm, cuddly relationship with big government programs (I think Julia took some Soma) that will ruin us financially, but you don’t get that impression due to the hyper-emotional text and lack of facts and numbers on the “what Obama would do” section. In addition, Dana Loesch aptly pointed out this rather embarrassing flaw in their narrative:

OH: “Does anyone else notice that Obama is president for all of #Julia ‘s life?”

— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) May 3, 2012

In all, if stick figures are part of the Obama push to sway independent voters, 57% of which think America is generally fair and are concerned about the debt, the size of government, and blame Congress for the legislative intransigence, then he will miss the mark on this one. The flawless campaign operation we witnessed in 2008 is starting to look like its success rested on a bed of hot air.  Oh wait…that’s exactly what happened.

Shifting Right: The Jewish Vote In 2012

Israel flag SC Shifting Right: The Jewish Vote in 2012

The Jewish vote has been a cornerstone in President Obama’s coalition and that of the Democratic Party for decades.  However, with calls from President Obama for Israel to return to the indefensible 1967 borders and disparaging remarks about Netanyahu caught on an open mic with President Sarkozy, one would think that Jewish support for this president should wane. Obama did win 78% of the Jewish vote in 2008, and recent polls show that 55% of Jewish respondents still back the president.  However, that is a five point drop from last June, which coupled with Obama’s incremental drop in his approval ratings, is a net loss of eleven points amongst Jewish voters.  Jewish conservatives see a break in the ranks.  I was fortunate to have David Milstein, the President of Young Jewish Conservatives, answer some questions concerning the objectives of the organization, how it started, and what they plan to do to alter the direction of the country in this critical election year.

1. When did you get the idea to start an organization that represents the interests of Jewish conservatives?

Milstein: A few years ago, two young rabbis realized it was time for politically conservative Jews to come together. There was no organization focused on this demographic. Central to the idea of YJC is to make it acceptable and eventually the norm for Jews to be politically conservative.  The obvious stereotype is that Jews are usually on the Left. But there are more Jews on the right than people realize. One of their major goals was to therefore form an organization that will reach out to the next generation and unite politically conservative young Jews who share our values and love of Israel.  We are here to support, represent, and defend their values in the public square.

The organization truly began over winter break when the two rabbis realized there was no better way to bring young Jews together than to lead a free trip to Israel.  I had the amazing opportunity to go on a trip with 28 students from 21 different colleges and universities.  We were all united in our support for Israel and our belief in conservatism.  After such a successful trip, I decided to join Young Jewish Conservatives full time.

We are actually leading another free trip for students this summer. If you are interested in joining us or want to learn more about our previous trip, feel free to visit our website youngjewishconservatives.org.

2. How does it make you feel that most in the Jewish community vote overwhelmingly Democratic in elections?

Milstein: It certainly is difficult when many Jews are on the Left.  As someone who is a conservative, I believe many of our conservatives values are interrelated with our Jewish values.  But YJC is here to move the Jewish vote to the Right.  Our goal is to focus on each new generation and tell them the truth about conservatism. Some on the Left, including President Obama, take the Jewish vote for granted. They pander during speeches, but their actions show an entirely different story. We are here to expose their hypocrisy and deception to young Jewish voters across the country.

 3. Why is it that Jewish Americans vote Democratic or cater to a more liberal point of view?

Milstein:  This is the million-dollar question.  Norman Podhoretz has a great book titled “Why are Jews Liberal?” that explains his theory behind it.  Some theories tie it back to their support of FDR when waves of immigration came to the US or the traditional kibbutz style of living that was the result of thousands of years of persecution.  This election will show a shift among the Jewish vote.  Jews across America will see how Obama’s policies are undermining Israel and won’t vote to give him a second term.

 4. Do you think Obama’s rather insensitive Israeli policy will affect the attitudes of Jewish voters in the 2012 elections? And if you think it will not have an impact, how do you explain Bob Turner’s win in Anthony Wiener’s old congressional district in 2011?

Milstein: Absolutely. The most recent polls on the Jewish vote show higher disapproval of Obama and much higher support for the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney than John McCain received in 2008.  The Jewish community is beginning to recognize that President Obama is no friend of Israel.  They may see him gave big speeches at AIPAC saying he supports Israel, but his actions tell an entirely different story.  Actions speak louder than words, which in general is a great theme to run on against Obama.

You are right. We have already seen a prime electoral example of a referendum on Obama’s anti-Israel policies in the Bob Turner election.  An orthodox Jew, Bob Turner ran much of his campaign exposing Obama’s true record on Israel.  The Democrats had no response to the truth. It is very hard to defend someone who has backtracked from his promise for an undivided Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and who has embraced the Palestinian narrative calling on Israel to accept an indefensible border of 8 miles wide.  And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Jewish voters in the Bob Turner election recognized that Obama is saying one thing and doing another, electing Turner in a typically Democrat district.  The message they sent to Washington was clear.  Sadly, President Obama has ignored them.

As a steadfast supporter of Israel, hearing Obama say to the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that a second term will give him more “flexibility” to conduct his foreign policy makes me very worried as to how he will treat Israel for another four years.

YJC will take this message across the country. We are planning to be very active in the 2012 election. We are developing a strategy to expose Obama’s real record on Israel and recruiting volunteers to go straight into the Jewish communities across America to tell the truth.

 5. Who have you networked with on Capitol Hill, the media, and others in the activist circle?

Milstein:We have been in touch with quite a few people in politics who are very excited about our goals and endeavors.  We are filling a very important vacuum.  Our board is already made up of some very prominent Jewish conservatives who are listed on our website.

YJC held the first ever Shabbat service at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) in February.  We had more than 100 CPAC attendees come celebrate Shabbos including many prominent conservative leaders and candidates for elected office. Again, there is more information on our website here.

6. Any GOTV operations planned with fellow YJC members across the country?

Milstein: We are working to spread the message all across the country, within the Jewish community and throughout the conservative political circle.  Now more than ever, we need a group who will take the conservative, pro-Israel message into the Jewish community to reach out to the next generation. However, in a few months, we will have a more defined strategy.

 7. Does Mitt Romney make the cut for an endorsement from the YJC

Milstein: As of now, YJC does not endorse any specific candidates, but it is clear that Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee for President.  For Mitt Romney to beat President Obama, he must not only expose how Obama has failed, but also the ideological reasons why they have failed. He must also articulate that this election is about voting for two very different paths for America’s future.  Romney cannot just say this in a speech; he must also prove it in his platform.  He must propose very bold, conservative solutions that promote economic freedom and defend the free enterprise system.  Doing so will show the American people a clear contrast and that he is a reformer willing to take on the biggest problems facing our country.

8. What possible Vice Presidential candidates makes the cut for YJC support?

Milstein: One of the best ways Romney can bring conservative enthusiasm to his campaign is to pick a true conservative running mate.  The person must be conservative in the eyes of conservatives, not just the pick of the establishment, inside the beltway pundits.  The candidate must have a real record of conservative reform and who is trusted to stand on conservative principles.  A few examples that come to mind are Governor Bobby Jindal (LA) , Governor Bob McDonnell (VA), Representative Paul Ryan (WI), Senator Pat Toomey (PA) and Senator Jim DeMint (SC).

Occupy Vs. Tea Party: The TV Series?

occupyVSteaparty Occupy vs. Tea Party: The TV Series?

YES! It is finally here! A reality television show that pits two of the most visible and vociferous political grassroots groups against each other in a battle of epic proportions.  Occupy vs. Tea Party is the brainchild of Mr. Gordon Gebert.  A musician by trade, Mr. Gebert hatched the idea of these two groups duking it out on live television upon seeing the growth of such activism after the coronation of Barack Obama.  He wanted a project that was fair, innovative, and fun in a time where politics is becoming all too personal. We can thank Hilary Rosen for that.  However, the dynamics of the show are actually quite interesting.

He said that the show’s will be in a one hour format (44 minutes with commercials) and will be a Survivor meets Big Brother meets Apprentice format.  Occupy and Tea Party contestants will be divided into teams of six with three females and three males on each side.  Each team will endure challenges, like in Survivor, and the winner would pick a debate topic for later in the program.  Gebert said “the meat of the show” is centered on the “Big Great Debate,” where we see our political allegiances duke it out in a battle royale over freedom, liberty, and the American way of life.  Gordon said he wanted to portray a debate that isn’t cut off by commercial breaks or abrupt endings due to time constraints, which I think a lot of us have felt frustrated about watching Hannity, The Five, or (gulp) MSNB—-(I can’t say it!)….the news in general!

At the conclusion of the debate, each side will vote a member off.  As a result, you will experience the typical fight to oust the lazy person, “the village idiot,” the poor debater, or the emotionally fragile. What fun!  The last two contestants will have one final Big Great Debate and the viewers will decide who won the contest.  Gordon feels that in similar programs, where voting off contestants is an integral part of the show, the viewer will find a Tea partier or, do I dare say, an Occupier, to connect with and will share in his or her dissapointment if they are voted off the program.

Gordon hopes that a major network will pick up the show for a weekly broadcast. He is currently raising funds to shoot the pilot episode for his summer preview.  However, if this show is picked up, then production will be given a budget to allow for such amenities and Mr. Gebert hopes that the increase in funds will enhance the quality of the show, provide more eye candy, and conduct more editing to help the narrative.  However, like in politics, it’s all about the money and if he can raise more than his targeted $50,000 budget for the pilot, he can pitch a better product to the network executives in early June or late July.  However, he knows the tough road ahead of him.  He admits that the only way he would be picked up by a major network is if they have a show that fails with audiences in their packed fall schedules.  Although, his optimism couldn’t be higher and there is always a few programs that don’t make the cut.  Case in point, Lone Star, 3 lbs, The Playboy Club, and The Paul Reiser Show were all sentenced to the chopping block.  At the very least, Occupy vs. Tea Party will be posted as a webisode on Youtube. This show has some serious potential and I wish Gordon Gebert the best in bringing this entertainment to a wider audience.

Resistance 44 Prepares For War

Resistance 44 Resistance 44 Prepares for War

The core team at Resistance 44 had a conference call last Wednesday night to codify their mission statement and their objectives.  In other words, they were preparing for war with the left-wing dependency culture and it is about time!

1) In one bold statement, define Resistance 44.

Resistance 44 is a nationwide network of young activists committed to facilitating a radical culture shift from a generation indoctrinated to embrace mob mentality to informed, politically active individual thinkers.

2) More specifically, state the goal.

Resistance 44 will make history and fight progressivism at the polls by generating the largest turnout of informed young voters. For far too long, we have been spoon-fed the progressive culture from the likes of Hollywood elites and sensationalized news pundits. We WILL DOMINATE the narrative. We WILL have a say in our future. WE ARE RESISTANCE 44.

3) Objectives:

1. Resist 44 will dominate the social media conversation by creating trending topics on Twitter, friending thousands of Facebook fans, and using every social media platform available to promote the goal of Resistance 44.

2. We will bombard social media platforms with high impact video entertainment that uses shock value, humor, and irony to educate millions of voters ages 18 – 40.

3. Resist 44 will mobilize our nationwide army of activists comprised of accurate and dependable researchers, writers, public speakers, and podcasts who will share goodwill and demonstrate the power of millions of people making a positive impact on the future.

4. We will debunk the stereotypes that progressives place on young conservatives. We will accomplish more without the shackles of government interference and will prove it through concentrated and focused action to change the “it’s always been this way” culture.

AFP Unleashes New Attack Campaign On Obama

Barack Obama speech hand 2 SC AFP Unleashes New Attack Campaign on Obama

We all remember the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as “The Stimulus.”  It was a $831 billion government goodie bag that had lofty projections of unemployment dropping below 8% and robust economic growth at 4% if it were passed by Congress.  Republicans in Congress had took a shellacking in the two previous election cycles and seemed ill-equipped to fight what was, as George Will states, unabashed political opportunism driving the funding of unpalatable pet projects that were then seen as “stimulative.”  Well, unemployment has been over 8% for well over 26 months and economic growth this year is at a paltry 2-2.3%.  This serves as another episode in the annals of Obama’s failed policies.

However, with a bill so enormous, corruption and waste were inevitable factors.  It appears that Frederich Hayek’s quote that “the curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design” rings true with this administration.  Americans for Prosperity has developed an ad campaign based around Hayek’s statement, which they hope will influence voters this election year.

They have followed up on their Solyndra ad and released a shocking and disturbing trailer detailing how billions of our taxpayer dollars were sent overseas while millions of Americans struggled in this miserable economic climate.  It states that $2.3 billion dollars in tax credits for green energy went to foreign countries. $1.2 billion was sent to a solar company to build a plant in Mexico.  Another half a billion to an electric car company in Finland.  In all, $34 billion dollars were wasted on clean energy initiatives, and Americans were left paying for it by exporting possible employment opportunities overseas.

American for Prosperity is focusing to bring this message of deceit and failure to eight states that are critical in the 2012 election.  It involves a mutli-tiered campaign utilizing new media, cable, and network outlets in Virginia, Ohio, New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, and Iowa.  Tim Phillips, President of AFP, hopes that this ad will influence swing voters come November and has also planned an extensive grassroots campaign which will be kicked off in Grand Rapids, Michigan starting in late April.

When I asked about why Pennsylvania was not on the list of states targeted in AFP’s campaign, New Media Director Stephanie Fontenot stated that it was simply a matter of resources and that while energy is a highly salient issue in PA due to the Marcellus Shale, they are going to focus on the initial eight states at the moment.  However, she did mention that it does not mean that PA is off the table for future events.

State Directors have already begun strategizing in Virginia and Florida.  Audrey Jackson, the Virginia AFP State Director, has already planned rallies in McLean, Charlottesville, and Glen Allen detailing how this president’s green energy initiatives are “tanking” America.  In Florida, AFP State Director Slade ‘O Brien stated how energy was critical to Floridians who run their air conditioners nine months out of the year.  He wants to convey a message of hypocrisy that surrounds the Obama Administration on energy concerning the president’s 2008 promise to have an “all of the above” energy policy that is less dependent of foreign oil.  He aptly gave the example of how Obama bashed more traditional forms of energy, such as coal, with his refusal to issue more permits that has hurt the industry.  Or Obama’s failure to fully approve the Keystone Pipeline and offering $2 billion dollars to Brazil to jumpstart their offshore oil exploration program.  As a result, AFP Florida will hold a town hall meeting in Naples on May 1st and a rally in Tampa on May 3rd to address these issues.

In all, AFP is gearing up for war with the meanest, toughest, most vicious political team the conservative movement has ever faced.
