From A Female Vet: Why The Military Shouldn’t Go Easy On Women

Are double standards and endemic discouragement of women to train hard to blame for the fact that women continue to wash out of the Marine Corps’ Officer Infantry Course? That is the charge of female Marine Lt. Sage Santangello in an article for the Washington Times. She says:

“I believe that I could pass, and that other women could pass, if the standards for men and women were equal from the beginning of their time with the Marines, if endurance and strength training started earlier than the current practice for people interested in going into the infantry, and if women were allowed a second try, as men are.”

I absolutely agree that the military should have one standard from the beginning, and it should be the men’s higher standards.

The tiers could remain – higher standards for combat military occupational specialties (MOSs) and support units, appropriately lower for the rest – but within each, women making the higher men’s standard.  It would be optimal for military efficiency and readiness (not to mention the most effective use of our tax dollars), but most women wouldn’t make it into the military in the first place. And although their caliber would be higher for having to pass and maintain higher standards, the ones who did make it would suffer far higher rates of injury (currently 4-10 times those of men, even on lowered standards) and attrition than we already do. We’d see women promoting more slowly, having shorter and fewer military careers, and the percentage serving would drop from 20% to 5% or less. The quality of women serving would be higher, the quantity would be lower, but the military would be stronger and more battle-ready.

While that would be the best thing for a country at war as we are with child-raping, honor-killing, suicide-bombing, amputation-happy savages, the problem is that feminists won’t tolerate it. Mainly through the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS), quotas for women have been imposed on the military for sixty years.

And every time jobs have been opened to them, the standards have been lowered to accommodate their lesser physical capabilities and to reduce their high rates of injury. (Say, if those military men are such thugs, such brutes, and such women-hating monsters, how come they’ve accommodated women this way since 1948? Weird.)

So the 2-person (one daren’t call it 2-man) stretcher-carry is now a 4-person stretcher-carry; women don’t have to do the pull-ups men do, throw a grenade as far, run as fast, scale the wall without steps, and on and on. Between lower standards for women and political correctness that sees making men out of boys as abuse, the standards are de facto lower for all.

Any testing to evaluate women’s strength, how they respond to types of physical training, or qualifying tests to determine job suitability have been defunded, abandoned, or, when the results show that women don’t qualify for the heavy-lifting jobs that feminists want them to occupy, discredited.

One example is the Military Enlistment Physical Strength Capacity Test (MEPSCAT). It was initially developed to address a problem brought to light by the military itself: Although they were filling their quotas, 85% of women filling the slots couldn’t do what the jobs required. As Stephanie Gutmann writes in The Kinder, Gentler Military, research scientists

…categorized all Army jobs as light, heavy, or very heavy, and then devised standard physical requirements – expressed as low, medium, high – with which to separate applicants for a particular MOS. They then conducted preliminary tests to see if soldiers in the field, already out there in assigned jobs, were matched with an appropriate MOS. ‘The results,’ as the Army Times put it, ‘did not bode well for women.’ ‘While most men exceeded the high and medium standards for aerobic capacity,’ the paper reported, ‘no woman met the high standard and very few the medium. In other words, by the proposed test’s standards, all of the men were qualified for their jobs in heavy-lifting specialties but fewer than 15 percent of the women.’

Military readiness? Hardly. The reaction from a member of DACOWITS? “The Army is a male-oriented institution, and officials are resistant to changes that will allow women to be fully utilized.” Testing showed the obvious: women couldn’t do the heavy lifting in jobs where they were placed via quotas, so the data had to be buried. The MEPSCAT was never implemented as a way to match recruits to appropriate jobs, even though that makes all the sense in the world to anyone but feminists and their lackeys at the Pentagon.

Why “Operation American Spring” Could Be The Death Of America…

“It is impossible to read the history of the petty republics of Greece and Italy without sensations of horror and disgust at the distractions with which they were continually agitated, and at the rapid succession of revolutions by which they were kept in a state of perpetual vibration between the extremes of tyranny and anarchy.”–Publius, Federalist Paper No. 9

For those who haven’t heard, Operation American Spring is a group of so-called patriots led by retired Col. Harry Riley, who are planning to demonstrate in Washington on May 16th. Their announced aim is to oust politicians they deem corrupt, and to replace them with politicians they like.  OAS is claiming the authority of the Constitution and Declaration to “throw off the bonds” of an unjust government and to redress grievances.  There’s just one problem: transferring power by these methods is totally unconstitutional.  If we follow this lead, we can forget elections and voter sovereignty.

Any group of citizens can collect in public to air grievances and urge a course of action. They can speak to create a tension in the mind of the community.  But OAS can’t claim to be restoring our constitutional republic by inviting ten million people to show up in Washington to throw people out of office outside the electoral process.  Be they ten or ten million, no one voted for them to represent America; and they certainly do not represent the Tea Party, which has from the start been a constitutionalist movement. Riley and OAS represent only themselves.

In the Federalist Papers, Publius warned against exactly what OAS is, a faction: “…a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens…” (Federalist Paper No. 10).

The Founders took great pains to create a government that would prevent the changeable passions of a group in frenzy from imposing their will on the rest of the country.

Dr. Mickey Craig of Hillsdale College, puts it succinctly:

The Constitution, while it is a popular government, it is a form of popular government which recognizes the disease of popular government, and has put in place institutional arrangements that will make it less likely that a factious or tyrannical majority will form and lead to the loss of liberty for the country.

Operation American Spring is taking its cues from the populist Occupy and Arab Spring movements.  The first brought destruction and anarchy to the streets of New York City and elsewhere.  The second lead to the installation of one of the most tyrannical, fanatical leaders in Egypt’s recent history. This is horrifying enough. But they are preying on the well-meaning patriotism of many in the Tea Party movement, trusting that these same folks won’t see that OAS is completely antithetical to how we change power in America.

They are using the genuine and understandable frustrations of patriots who are fed up, citizens who see government out of control and want to do something to bring us back from the brink–from unsustainable debt, a government that won’t enforce our laws, a tyrannical health care policy that infringes on our liberties, and an economy and foreign policy that are in the toilet.  They want to do something – something with faster results than our republican form of government allows.  So here comes OAS with a call to action, miming Constitutionalism and encouraging the people to rise up and kick the corrupt bastards out via Washington sit-in.

Obama And Congress Scrooge Veterans On Christmas

Shame over the disgraceful treatment of Veterans during and after Vietnam resulted in a societal shift by the general population in how it treats its men women in uniform over the last forty years.  Regardless of individual views on war and the military, the majority of our culture respects and wants to help those who volunteered to defend us against all enemies both foreign and domestic.  Not so on Capitol Hill.  The administration and our politicians are determined to put illegal aliens above Veterans, time and time again; rewarding those who take from America and break her laws and punishing those who work and sacrifice to protect her.

During the September government shutdown the Obama administration had privately owned and operated war memorials shut down, barricaded and staffed with law enforcement to bar Veterans.  And who could forget Nancy Pelosi speaking at an illegal immigration rally facilitated by the erstwhile shutdown government, while 90-year-old WWII veterans in wheelchairs were threatened with arrest for visiting their memorials.  As House Republicans passed bill after bill to fund all aspects of government except Obamacare, Senate Democrats kept the government shut down for political theater, and continued to target and punish Veterans.

After passing military Sequestration (while non-essentials like the National Endowment for the Arts remain fully funded), Veterans have been struck yet another undeserved blow by politicians on both Left and (supposedly) Right.  The budget “deal” passed this week not only fattens government with vastly increased spending and economy-killing tax hikes – the opposite of what we should be doing – it does so at the expense of those who dedicated their best years to a military career.  Military pensions and retirement benefits are on the chopping block, cutting $6 billion over ten years.  Even disabled retirees are not exempt from pension cuts, and item Paul Ryan knew about two days before the bill was passed but did nothing to fix.  An amendment proposed by Jeff Sessions to correct this grievous “mistake” was blocked by Democrats because it would recoup the money lost from fraud by requiring applicants for particular child tax credits to submit their social security numbers.   Far be it from Democrats and many Republicans to enforce American law and refuse government benefits to illegal immigrants.

Leave it to the crooks in Washington to pass a deal no one wants that increases spending, further damages the economy, and sticks it to our dedicated military while indulging illegal immigrants.  Whatever Paul Ryan was thinking before the budget passed, he should now be thinking about what he wants to do once we kick him out of office.  With Republicans like this, who needs Democrats?

Conservatives: Doing The Work The Establishment GOP Just Won’t Do

Obama Excalibur Stuck Cantor Cruz SC

Defunding Obamacare, continuing resolutions, the government shutdown, and the incompetence circus of the Obamacare launch.  The Fall roller-coaster on the Hill has been something to watch, and also very instructive.  We have learned just how spineless John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, and the other Senate Republicans really are.  We have learned that they will studiously ignore 70% of the American people who have been communicating their opposition to Obamacare through every means at their disposal.  We have seen that they care only for their own power and money, and nothing for the constituents they represent.  We have seen just how vicious they can become when the Establishment status quo is reminded that they do not rule the citizens; the sovereign American citizen grants them representative duties.  And we take them away, too.

Establishment Republicans can’t stand what Senator Ted Cruz did when he stood on the Senate floor and vigorously articulated the problems with Obamacare because it contrasted their own greed and cowardice so obviously. From its unconstitutionality to the unfairness of exemptions and subsidies to its negative impact on the economy and healthcare (and everyday Americans), Cruz made the conservative argument the whole Republican party should have been making.  Imagine if the rest of his party had done the same!  Imagine if they had spent as much time and energy supporting the man doing the right thing as they did attacking, undermining, and opposing him.  Imagine too, if they had spent as much time and energy working to persuade Democrats to vote with them to defund what Max Baucus (D-MT), the author, called the law: “a train wreck.”  Making the conservative case, it would hardly matter that the media is the Left’s propaganda machine.  They wouldn’t be able to contain it.  Cruz took the conservative message to the people, and many heard him. It was powerful, and the gutless Republicans hate that.

While trashing the Tea Party (everyday conservative-leaning Americans), the GOP amoebas keep telling that same group to deliver them the majority, and then they will fight to stop Obamacare.  We all know that now that it’s in, it will be all but impossible to stop it.  The near-impossible is hardly the specialty of today’s GOP.  And what will they do when the inevitable argument comes that, yes, the whole thing is a catastrophe – and that the solution is a single-payer system?  Will they fight to open us to a free market solution instead?  No.  They don’t want to stop Obamacare.  They want to control it.  Obamacare is a cancer that needs to be cut out before it can spread, and the House did its Constitutional duty by using the power of the purse to deny funding.  The rest just showed us their utter cowardice and indifference to the will of the people and their own oath of office.  They wrapped themselves with blame for the shutdown long before it happened in order to point the finger at the real conservatives in the party.  But the real conservatives are not to blame for the shutdown any more than they’re responsible for Obamacare itself.  They are the ones doing the right thing, and the ones doing the wrong thing despise it.

Whatever the Boehners, McConnells, McCains, and Jeb Bushes are saying, you can bet that doing the opposite will put the country on the right track.  Jeb says we need to step back and cool it, so what we really need to do is bring the heat vigorously and constantly.  Remember that when they are telling you to cool it, they are saying: cool the fight for liberty in the face of tyranny.  Cool your jets on the fight against Obamacare, the newest form of slavery.  HELL NO WE WON’T.

If you are a conservative and you’re not being attacked by liberals and squishy Republicans, you’re doing it wrong.  Winston Churchill was called a warmonger, among many other slurs, for opposing Hitler, while Neville Chamberlain was given hero’s praise for appeasing him.  Who would you rather have been?   Who will you be today?  So keep doing the work Establishment Republicans won’t do.  Keep bringing the heat against them.  Raise your voice.  Write your ink dry.  Call and email your reps and bug the hell out of them.  They are accountable to YOU.  And support people like Senators Cruz, Lee, and Rand Paul who are actually upholding their oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.  They’re leaving it all on the field to preserve liberty for all of us.  Thank them.

Senator Cruz’s “Make DC Listen” Filibuster Leaves RINOs In The Dust

Ted Cruz official portrait 113th Congress Senator Cruz’s “Make DC Listen” Filibuster Leaves RINOs in the Dust

Senator Ted Cruz closed in on twenty-four hours on the Senate floor in an effort to “Make D.C. Listen” to the American people and fulfilling this promise: “I will do everything necessary and anything possible to defund Obamacare.”  So many hours later, he was just as articulate and fired up as he was in the first hour, making the case against the “train wreck” bill all Republicans should have been making long since.  Americans across the continent have been clamoring for this kind of leadership and representation.  Republicans across the country should have been watching with pen and paper in hand.

In these many hours with no teleprompter and few notes, Senator Cruz stood firmly articulating the arguments to defund Obamacare.  Full-time hours forcibly cut to part-time hours, thousands of workers laid off because businesses can’t afford to cover their health insurance, the invasive role government will play by taking over health care, the denigration of quality of and access to health care, and much more.  He has made the case for a free-market alternative to Obamacare that would include interstate competition resulting in lowered costs, more choice for the individual, and coverage for preconditions.

Senator Cruz told story after story of those already negatively impacted by Obamacare.  In an unprecedented move he read “tweets” from Twitter from the hash tags #MakeDCListen and #StopObamacare, truly giving the American people a voice on the Senate floor.  The People want the Senate to vote against Cloture, a procedural motion that would facilitate efforts by Senator Harry Reid and others to strip the defunding language from the Continuing Resolution passed by the House.

With the majority of Americans now understanding the negative repercussions of Obamacare and everyone from the Unions to the Tea Party against it, you would think the GOP would take this golden opportunity to unite with this bipartisan support against a law most of them admit they know is terrible.  But no, Republicans in Name Only across America are showing their true colors.  They remain absent from the Senate floor and continue to work against the American people and the few men (Senator Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, and Senator Mike Lee) who are truly representing us.

“If we listen to the people,” Senator Cruz said, “if we make D.C. listen, this wouldn’t be about party.  This wouldn’t be about Democrats sticking to the bill they passed, this wouldn’t be about Republicans afraid of political blame and repercussions.  This would be about a hundred senators listening to the people and saying ‘This bill isn’t working.’”

Senator Cruz’s leadership is truly inspirational.  As I write, he is going head to head with Senator Dick Durbin; and you would think he’d just woken up from a full night’s rest, astute and fresh as a daisy.  Twitter and Facebook are inundated with notes in support of the Filibuster and defunding Obamacare, and many stayed up all night to watch the Senator in solidarity.  Thousands of citizens have been flooding their representatives’ phone lines and inboxes with calls and emails to vote NO on Cloture and to stand with Senator Cruz.

The People are speaking.  Will DC listen?
