With the help of a Democrat cheerleader media, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is trying to invent some new “truths” about the price of gas – well, kind of. Speaking to a gathering at the National Press Club in Washington recently, Salazar repeated the tired Democrat line that the President has little control over the price of gasoline.
Using child-like simple syntax so his media friends could take his words down and report them just as the Administration wants them presented, Salazar said, “No one has the ability. Not even Harry Potter to simply wave a magic wand to say we are going to have gas prices at $2 or $2.50.”
In the strictest sense, Salazar is, of course, correct in saying the President can’t directly do anything about the price of oil. Nevertheless, there were no questions about why Barack Obama has not used his powers to free up the process of finding and refining crude oil, an action that would bring the prices down by crippling oil speculators in a few days.
Swerving close to the truth, Salazar mentioned that oil prices were set by “global economics,” which of course conveniently absolves Obama of any responsibility for gas prices that are currently approaching a national average of $4.00 a gallon (with a possibility of $5.00 a gallon on Memorial Day.)
Feeding his dimwitted audience more of what they want to write and say, Salazar then babbled on about green energy and “staying the course” as the best energy policy. No one in the supine media questioned why “staying” a course that has given us European-type, high gas prices isn’t lunacy, but Salazar knew the media would never be impolitic enough to point that out.
Lying about wanting an “all of the above energy strategy” – that excludes drilling anywhere oil could actually be found – Salazar rewrote history for his slow-witted friends by implying that the up-and-down oil prices we have had over the past 40 years were due to anything other than his Party’s tireless efforts to impede oil discovery and refinement. One lies, and the other swears to it.
