A 4-year-old girl made her parents proud when she helped solve the case of her recent home invasion.
Last Wednesday, two men reportedly entered Abby’s house while she was being watched by her 17-year-old babysitter and proceeded to steal valuable items.
“Wednesday was the worst day in my life,” the little girl said.
However, the break-in was apparently a ruse organized by the babysitter herself. With the help of her 16-year-old boyfriend and another male suspect who played the role of intruders, she nearly had everyone fooled. The teen told the police that two armed black men had broken into the home.
“They told us to get out of the house ’cause they wanted to steal stuff,” Abby said.
Cody Oaks, the family’s neighbor, fit the description and was consequently handcuffed and taken in for hours of questioning. Yet, the candid toddler observed that the thieves were white, not black, saying he “wasn’t the right skin color.”
“Literally, in 30 seconds she changed everything that had been going on for five, six hours,” said Abby’s mom, pleased with her daughter’s sleuthing abilities.
Oaks, of course, was relieved to be vindicated and thankful that Abby spoke up. He hopes that the babysitter and her partners in crime learn their lesson.
“It’s kind of sad because I don’t think [the babysitter] realizes the dangerous situation that it put me in,” Oaks said.
Abby said the “bad guys” stole her kitty bank, iPod, Xbox, and her Wii. She instinctively realized that the babysitter was involved.
“That was really her being bad,” Abby said. “She’s not a good babysitter.”
The stolen items have been recovered, much to the little girl’s delight.
“They got it back because of me being the superhero,” she said.
The teen babysitter has since admitted defeat and confessed. She, along with the thieves, have been arrested and face robbery, burglary, and perjury charges.
